It WILL be interesting to see if they can make it as exciting as the flash and still be EPA happy.

If they can, it will be my first "shame on Yamaha".

I always felt their hands were tied. We'll see, I guess.

I think it is BS, personally.

After playing around inside the ECU for 6+ months, and flashing a few for others, I don't see how the "EPA" can be blamed for this.

The results are 90%+ in the throttle maps. The factory maps are so restricted that finding additional "power" is easy. We have seen countless PCV+AT posts to know the stock fueling isn't THAT bad.

This was Yamaha's doing. Not the EPA's fault for a change.

Same song. Added verse. You have now joined a sizable choir!

I disagree with the order though.

First tires.
Second flash.
Third suspension.

Order turns out to be sorted by price too. :)
Same order for me, just haven't gotten to the suspension yet - it's on top of the list for next year. I did throw heated gear in ahead of the suspension to get through this winter...

Plus: I'm lucky enough to fall within the weight range for the design envelope of the bike, so I figure I'm just getting everything out of the stock suspenders before I replace them.

Plus Plus: I figure spacing the upgrades out like this is like getting a new bike every year for the fraction of the price of actually buying a new bike...

That's what I figured, given how the LC GS performs straight off the showroom floor.
A trip on a flat bed back to the service department is not what I would call perfromance.....sorry, couldn't resist this one. Too easy.

Slam BMW all you want for reliability (I stir the pot on advrider quite a bit ::013::) but they sure know how to tune a stock bike....

Holy ECU flash!!!!!! This thing is ridculous with the flash.

There is no embellishment or over statement of just how good this flash is on our S10s. Allow me to push you over the fence if you are wondering if it's worth it. IT IS!!!! Do it!!!!

I way under estimated how much improvement it made on the bike. It seems to have improved every single area on the ride envelope.

I am beyond impressed!! This should be the second thing anyone/everyone does on this bike. Suspension first, ECU flash second! Period! It is that good!!!!
Haha! Another satisfied 'flashee.' I'm glad the body of evidence has grown so large. What was once viewed as the lunatic ravings of a coolaid-drinking few has become an accepted and highly-ranked mod. 8)

Just to clarify...EVERYONE here is a raving, Kool-Aid-drinking lunatic. ;) And happily, no doubt. :D

Absolutely love how my S10's road manners have improved since being reflashed. Best £345 that I have yet spent on her. ::26::

Also………..if I may digress for a moment …………………….I have no quarrel with you about being referred to as a lunatic, as my voices and I live harmoniously these days. ::014:: However, living on the other side of the pond to most of you lot, I have no idea as to just what the hell Kool-Aid is and why it's so often used when making reference to people who are perhaps a bit dim. Anyone care to enlighten me?

It's not about being dim, it's become a reference to the Jonestown Massacre back in the 70's where a cult leader's followers committed mass-suicide by drinking poisoned Kool-Aid at his command. Kind of a dark reference, but has become widely used here to describe fanatical followers of any belief.

I'd guess a lot of folks, especially those under 40, likely don't even know it's origins...

Thanks for the heads up on the Kool-Aid question. Seems to fit perfectly with the levels of fanaticism this bike brings out in some of us. ::022::

Yep. I'm a certified imbiber of the Big Blue's Kool-Aid now. They got this one about as close to perfect for me as I could've imagined - took just a few tweaks to make it just right.

I've said this many times before, I believe Yamaha built the Tenere to about 80% complete so we could finish it off to suit our individual needs. They gave us a rock-solid platform and said, "Here ya go boys - Farkle the nuts off it, make it your own, then ride it like you stole it - good luck trying to throw something at it that it can't do."

Just a wonderfully well-rounded, reliable package...

I know we've gotten way, way, way off topic here, but this event (I think I was seven when it happened) had a profound effect on me. I was raised in a devout Southern Baptist home, and this started my skepticism of organized religion and the effects it could have on people when taken to an extreme.

Unfortunately, fanaticism (in religious contexts) has proven to be worse than I could've ever imagined at that time....

Motorcycle fanaticism, on the other hand, is one of the most mentally-healthy things I believe anyone could be stricken by... :)

Ima a preachers kid. Long line too. I broke the chain, although the missus says I'm plenty preachy.

I too have drunk the S10 Kool-Aid. Hopelessly.

I must be an easy mark.

Honestly, the bike could have and should have come from Yamaha running this way. I'm pretty sure that the reason it doesn't has nothing to do with reliability.

I also don't believe the guys at places like ECUunleashed are smarter and better at engine tuning than the engineers at Yamaha. Instead, they simply are immune from the many obstacles that the OEM isn't.

So if you feel like flashing your S10 is warranted, no reason to wait. Lucky you. I had 22,000 miles on mine before the flash was easily available.
Now Christmas is over I will be putting some pennies aside to get this done in the next few months, Thanks!
