We've gotten some definitive answers, with still a couple left to be addressed, but I thought it would be good to start a separate topic for the folks that have the Gen2 flash. Most that have posted they're getting it have either JUST gotten it back, or are en route to/from ECUnleashed in CA.

The ECUnleashed flash is agnostic as far as NA/UK/SA origin. The same flash performs the same modifications.

Here's what was described as in the previous post:
Original link: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=7879.0

What exactly does the Gen2 reflash update change?
  • Significant improvements to the throttle response in "S" mode maps
  • Greater fuel efficiency in "S" mode maps
  • "T" mode mapping remains stock but we made slight adjustments to the AFR (Air/Fuel Ratio) in 5th and 6th gear producing a value of 13:1 as opposed to 12.7:1(factory)
  • Better advance maps over both cylinders 1 and 2 - referring to ignition timing changes. Better, in this case, meaning smoother ignition maps for both cylinders.
  • Fully compensated for the closed loop routine below 5k rpm
What exactly does the Gen1 ECUnleashed reflash do to my XT1200 ECU?
  • Removal of the top speed limiter
  • Removal of the factory timing retardation
  • Removal of the factory throttle restrictions
  • Increased rev limit by 500rpm- no cost option
  • Increase idle up to 1250- no cost option
  • Less engine braking and improved decel maps
  • Improved throttle control
  • Eliminate the factory injector cut off
  • Eliminate dash error codes
  • and all of the benefits from the gen 2 flash as well.
As for some of the other questions re: the need of having/not having a Power Commander V and/or AutoTune and whether or not the stock O2 sensors are still utilized, here is what I've found through various other message boards on the topic.
  • The stock O2 sensors are still utilized if they are retained. You can either leave them connected as is (recommended if you don't have a PCV + AT as the ECU will still trim fuel accordingly), disconnect the connection under the right hand fairing, or remove the sensors all together (& clean up some wiring in the process) and plug them up in the stock headers SOURCE: http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=336803 2ND Source - a lot of other NA S10's are running without O2 sensors, but have a PCV + AT.
  • Is there a need/benefit to having a Power Commander/Autotune? The answer is no and yes. It's no in that the ECU is flashed for fuel based on if you have a slipon or full exhaust. However, it's a generic map and not a custom map for your bike. On some bikes it may be dead on and on others it may be a bit off. However, you would need to remap your fuel controller after you have your ECU flashed. If you have the AutoTune this can be done by you, however if you don't you should get a custom dyno tune as you will need a new map to adjust for all the changes that ECUnleashed has made with fueling. SOURCE: http://forum.motomummy.com/index.php?/topic/1202-motomummy-ecunleashed-authorized-dealer/
  • If you don't have an PCV w/ Autotune, you must get a new PCV tune done on a dyno, or zero out the PC V AFR map and let the ECU handle fueling completely. Retaining the PCV + AT allows you to fine-tune fueling if installed.

Take it easy,
Karson

Is the dreaded off idle stumble eliminated with a reflash?

Hey Paul - I can't remember if you've got the Gen1 flash already and inferring about the off-idle stumble fix being re-addressed/enhanced in Gen2 revision?

No off idle stumble before or after gen 1 reflash here.

Updated main thread. Will try and get an answer for you on the off idle stumble, and if not, let the results give you an answer. I personally didn't have the stumble, but that doesn't mean you still didn't.

I think we need another results only topic, almost a page of non-results again ::)

Could we have a moderator controlled topic where either the results need to be submitted to a mod who uploads to a locked topic, or just any non result posts get deleted

I should be able to update with an initial impression this evening.

Sorry... But I gotta' laugh. Honestly, why would anyone think this "Results" thread will be any different from any of the others?

If history repeats itself then it will nothing more than the same ol' ::002:: . Just look at how it's started out... ;)

Meanwhile... ::017::

p.s. - and what's funnier still is somebody starting a "results" thread before anybody actually has any "results"... ::025::

Well, when, like you, nobody reads the full text (note: I metion locked / moderator controlled topic) they will be unable to post shite into it ::008::

I just got mine back today (Gen 2) and took the bike for a quick spin. Much different than the first version. There is a significant difference between sport and touring modes now that was not there in the gen 1. It was hard to tell much in the first version between the two. This is an improvement in my book as the T mode can be used for wet or two up now as it is very linear and has no hit and sport is very punchy now and has a significant mid range improvement and immediate trottle response. I had a terrible stumble in sport mode before and needed a PC to add enough fuel to make it run right. It is fueling much better now with my mods (header, and exhaust) and the stumble appears gone but sit feels a bit snatchy so I may need to play with the fueling and perhaps add back the 02 sensors now to get it dialed. First impressions are however good!

I just took my Tenere for a ride with the Gen II upgrade, and I like it a lot. Seems to have more power than before in sport mode. Not sure about touring mode, as I never use it. The best part is there is NO off idle stumble when leaving from a stop. I am very happy about that. The Gen II upgrade does everything I was hoping the Gen I upgrade would have done. (My bike is totally stock in the drivetrain other than this flash)

For those of you who want to get your ECU flashed for the first time, which will give you the Gen II upgrade now as the default - go for it. It will improve any and all ridability issues if your bike is stock. I cannot comment on other modifications in combination with this flash.

I am very happy.

Thanks Mark, I've been waiting for someone to chime in about the off idle stumble. That's just what I wanted to hear.

Done a good few miles on mine now in a variety of conditions, overall very impressed. Initial comments about surge issue being "almost" cured for my modified bike still stand. I spent all day today on narrow lanes with lots of low speed work and barely had any surging, it's there at @24-26mph in 3rd, and @18-20mph in second but only if you try to hold those very exact speeds in those gears, and it is only on a totally steady throttle, you can pull from below 2k and it will not surge, the slightest acceleration stops the surge. Unless you spend a lot of time in heavy congestion you will rarely notice it and it is real easy to ride around now.

I am still so impressed with the drive in all gears at all rpm's, swapped onto my mates 1200 Tiger for a quick spin and it felt like a rev happy race bike in comparison, in the real world the flashed motor just rocks, just keep it between 3k and 5k and it tears along almost as quick as the stock bike would when being caned senseless.

It is also definitely indicating much better fuel figures, typically 3-4mpg above what I was getting before under the same conditions and I have now run it on Motorways (steady indicated 80 mph) to and from work (mix of faster roads and country lanes) and today's run around a load of slow country lanes. Now going to start comparing the computer to my own calculations over a few tanks to see if this improvement is real or the Flash has screwed up the MPG calculations.

There is no way I would change anything now, the very occasional (easily worked around) surge is a small price to pay for the free breathing a set of headers give to the top end - not that I use the top end as much now the bottom is so much stronger, but nice to have the extra zap in reserve.

Defo no stumble either (or at least not in Sport mode)

So Rasher, assuming I wanted to set my bike up like yours; header, slip-on and Gen2 flash? Or do you have a (full Arrow system) PCV and autotune also?
Thanks, Scott

I've had the Gen2 flash now for over 500 miles on a completely stock (engine/exhaust wise) S10. I run almost exclusively in Tame (Touring) mode. I use Scary (Sport) mode when I need some passing authority and to occasionally "Let the beast out.". This is what I am seeing:
  • Off idle stumble is gone.
  • Surging is gone (at least I can't get it to manifest).
  • Gas mileage went from 48 to 51 miles/USgallon (60-70 degF air temperature, one up)
  • Compression braking is reduced (my wife doesn't bump into me when I dump the throttle).
  • Scary mode just got scarier.
  • My overall impression is: smooth, smooth, smooth.

At current gas prices I will have to keep the S10 for 137000 miles for break even (I'm aiming for a lot more than that). But that's not the point. I'm very satisfied with the flash and highly recommend it!!!
