ECU Unleashed on bikes going offorad

I am interested in getting the ECU Unleashed treatment, but I like to hear observations of people who got this mod, and do ride off-road frequently as I am one of those people.

Does it make the bike easier to control off-road? In theory the on/off transition fix should help in crawling speeds. How about the 1-2-3 restrictions being lifted, does that make it harder to control, and end up causing traction issues?

Thanks for any advice.

I've been riding with the ECU for about four years... I ride as much dirt as possible... Its more 'plugged in' and easier to control for me.. If after eight or ten hours off road and getting tired I have put it in (T) mode and it dumbs it down.... I've always enjoyed the ECU...

I had the AVC8130 reflash in my Gen1 and it did make the on/off throttle smoother.

I had my bike reflashed with AVCs recommended settings. I like my new sport mode ut kinda wish i had left my touring mode alone for offroad riding and slippery conditions. I feel that the mellow character of stock T mode is perfect for getting traction offroad and decelarating with engine brake instead of hitting the brakes.

I have the ECU Unleashed but it's a custom version to also enhance the T mode. I run this all the time, and basically it provides the same power as their S mode enhancement but with a smoother delivery. This turned out to be a good combination for me in the dirt, its controllable and can crawl at lower RPM or can roll the throttle on for momentum without gear change (such as picking thorough a rough section before going up a hill). Also it has more snap if needed to get good wheel spin, stock T would not do this without a lot of effort.

I have a bike from Canada had the reflash done and my bike has not started since I got it back. I get 5 flashes long then 3 short on the immobilizer light. No fuel pump sound priming when I turn the key on. bike has been dead now for 2 months and very frustrated. I read all of the posts out here as to how good the reflash is and I believe you folks but for me my bike is dead in the water. Running out of options and desparate to find a solution. ECUnleashed wants to put the bike back to stock as they have no suggestions further as to fix it. Yamaha today said you should not have reflashed and they can't help.

Feel like I am stuck...no bike and no answers. I will have to send it back to ECunleashed but no guarentee it will work even when they go back to stock. So very frustrated and wished I had just left the ECU alone.

It seems like you have an answer to change it back to stock? Yeah, Yamaha's not going to help you at this point.

I gather I will send it back and hope when I get it back it actually starts. If it doesn't no idea what to do at that point but best not get ahead of myself. Was just hoping there was a way to clear the cashe of the immobilizer if it existed. Thought pehaps an error code that likely started the first time i put the ecu in with the wrong flash may be holding things up and if I could find a way to clear it the new flash may work.

Do bikes store error codes?

sutol1, do you know anyone with an S10 that you could borrow their ECU and try it on your bike? That would let you find out if that is where the problem is.

No direct experience with this situation, but I would disconnect the battery and let it sit for a few days while you wait to get the ECU back. Then install the ECU and then reconnect the battery. Maybe that will clear the immobilizer fault and allow it to start.

I just returned from a long dirt ride with my flashed bike. S-mode + TC off + knobbies = massive power slides + giant roosts. 100 hp in the dirt is intoxicating, especially when you are leading. The guy behind me was complaining that now he needs to clean his air filter. ::021::

I find it better off road because when your standing you don't have to twist the throttle as far to get on the gas.

I have emailed ECUnleashed about their flash. They stated this: "As for your question, we do NOT make adjustments to the Tour Mode so it will remain suitable for rain or trails."
I have sent my ECU in to them to have it flashed, I will let you know how the "Tour" mode turns out.

They have 25% off until December 2, use code BLACK25OFF. I know they are more than others mentioned on this forum, but they leave "Tour" mode for rain/dirt use. I don't need 2 "Sport" modes.

Finally got a decent day to take my ECUnleashed flashed YST for a ride. It was all on road, so these are just my observations for that; I went maybe 50 miles. I have the stock exhaust system, no mods.
First up, Tour Mode: They definitely changed Tour mode, unlike what the sales rep claimed. I found Tour mode much easier to ride around town. At lower revs and in lower gears, it is way better. Much smoother throttle response, no snatchy throttle anymore. Once you get the revs up in Tour mode, there is more power than before, or better response, or it just wakes up more than before. Not sure how to describe it, but overall, I like it. Still cool, calm, and collected at the lower RPM's and gears, but with more get up and go when you get the revs up. Engine braking is diminished, but not gone.
Sport Mode: OK, now it is starting to remind me of my FJR in Sport mode! Once again, smooth throttle response. But no waiting for the revs to get up for the motor to come alive, it's on right now. Engine braking is similar to Tour mode.
In both modes I noticed that the engine lugged better at lower RPM's, didn't have to downshift as much. It also pulled away from stop lights better. Engine starts quicker, revs quicker, runs smoother. I like it. I was thinking of getting the Arrow headers and a can, but now maybe not.

I just had my ECU redone (by Anthony, AVC8310) and my first impressions are like yours, BadNews, especially how much easier and more readily the bike pulls away from a dead stop in T mode. I was told by many how night and day the bike would be afterward, but this is really something. Now it's easy to understand why some who have gone from a First Gen to a Second Gen bike think it's that much more powerful. Yamaha only bumped total power output by ~ 1-2hp, but they loosened up the restrictive ECU settings, similar to what we have now accomplished.

Badnews, you're full of good news! :)

It's sweet, ain't it?

But I got some bad news for ya. Lol
Those headers are worth it! (my opinion)
For more of the same reason the flash was.
The bike just keeps getting better with each step of "unleashing" its potential.
