I finally got around to installing some accessory lights I had purchased some time ago. Rigid Industries Dually. So first thing, I direct wired the harness to the battery. Being the clever boy that I am, I plugged in one of the lights and flipped the switch. Light came on. All good. Heartened by this transient tidbit of success, I proceeded to route the wiring harness and Yada yada ... half hour or so later after much fiddling around, it was pretty much where I wanted it. So I plugged in both lights and ..... nothing. Nada. Nyet. Negatory. Not a damn thing. I've been messing with it for a couple hours now. Still nothing.

The only thing of note that happened was that as I passed the three bare ends that connect to the switch up through the entrails of the bike, the little plastic coverings slipped down on 2 or maybe all three, and it sparked. So I checked the fuse in the harness and ... blown. I replaced it.

still won't work. I have no idea what to try next. I gonna have a friend of mine come over with a circuit tester and try to figure this out. He has skills in the department that I am sorely lacking. My heated jacket still works. Bike starts. No obvious other problems.

I'm open to suggestions. Very frustrating. Thanks. R ::007::

Rem is there a relay in line, are you still trying to test the lights direct to the battery or are you now trying to see if lights will work via swtich you have installed.

I would suggest grounding the circuit and connect power to battery before the fuse. If no worky I woudl say you blew the bulbs

I will be adding this set of LED lights but don't have it yet. Normally, the way wiring harness consists of 2 leads to the battery and a bare wire that's used to trigger the built in relay in the wiring harness that energizes the lights switch. Did you wire that trigger wire to a switched outlet? The way I'd wire it is 2 leads to the battery and switch trigger wire posi-tap'd to a switched outlet, such as the positive lead of the accessory socket.

Thanks for your responses, guys. I don't understand anything either of you said, but I'll print it out and get someone who knows what they're doing to check it out for me. Hopefully someone I don't have to pay more than a couple of beers. ::025:: ::025::

The wiring harness was all one piece. Switch already installed. I'm thinking it's either the switch or the bulbs. With my luck, it will be the more expensive. Or something even more expensive I haven't thought of yet. Thanks again. R

There has to be a "trigger" wire, otherwise the lights would stay on all the time, even when the bike is shut off. Or if the bike is shut off, a passer by can turn them on and leave them on and kill your battery.

Is there not a bare wire? It's the wire that you attach to a switched source, such as the accessory socket's wire to supply power to the wiring harness and shuts off when the bike is turned off. (that's in addition to the 2 wires that attach to the battery).

There are two wires that attach to the battery. Got that. And got them right, too. Each wire looks like a "double" wire combo .... one red and one black. Then about 6" before the switch, there is a "Y" junction, and three wires emerge going to the switch. The other branch of the "Y" goes to the lights .... again, two wires each composed of a red and a black stuck together. Each one of those has a fancy schmancy connector that connects to the lights.

I'd love to hear how these lights do. They look bulletproof, but do they throw some good light too?

It can best be described as an .. Iatrogenic .. situation.

It was not the fault of the lights, harness, manufacturing process, switch, fuses, bike, Yamaha, Rigid Industries or even the Democrats or the Republicans. Noooooooo ..... one might say it was operator error.

Let's just say I'm a poor, ignert sumbich .... send money.

But on the bright side, I have lights ... get it ??? Lights ?? BRIGHT side ??? Aw, maaaaaaaaaaannnnnn. Still got it. R ::003::
