Any reason to think this is a bad idea in terms of fender clearance? I’ve seen PIAA lights in this location but these horns are quite large.

Also gotta take my measurements with a grain of salt. 1- the fork is compressed a bit already just from weight of bike. 2- angle of camera might change the actual measurement by 1” or more depending on how level I am. Did my best!

I have twin tone horns mounted under my lights but mine are the snail shell type. If the horns are the same diameter as the piaa lights then I suppose they should fit without a problem.

The clearance should be okay.
While it looks like an optimal location for sound projection those horns are going to be very difficult to keep clean and it may be an issue when they repeatedly get blasted wet while riding in the rain.

You may be right about the rain but I’m thinking they’re designed to withstand it. I’m most concerned about clearance.

If it were a pushrod tube bike I could pop the caps and check the suspension at maximum compression but at this point I think I’ll just unweight the front end and measure based on advertised suspension travel.

Was just hoping someone here might know. I could have sworn I’ve seen these horns mounted on another Tenere somewhere and assumed it’s been done a bunch before. They fit almost too perfectly with a 1/2” metal spacer and longer bolt in the headlight bracket.

It's hard to tell from a picture, but it looks to me that if you bottom the forks you are going to have some damaged parts. Just cut something rigid (a stick) to the same length as the exposed slider on your fork, like you did with the tape measure in your first picture. This should give you a good idea how much clearance you have to work with.

Hold the stick on top of the fender and move it across the fender while keeping it parallel to the fork tubes and the top of the stick directly under the horn. This should give you a better idea on the clearance.

On my horn upgrade, I used the two FIAMM Freeway Blaster horns and had very little clearance (less than half inch I think) and after 111,000 miles on the horn installation, I have never had them contact the fender.
The horns were positioned where the bottom of the horns followed the shape of the top of the fender which helped with the clearance issue.

Worst case, just extend the wire(s), and mount them to the crash bar where it bends around the fairing. Still out front, but, away from everything.

Front wheel travel is 7.5" so the fender looks like it will hit them.
Last I looked fenders were about $130.

I’m at 6 1/4” fender to horn rim. The horns are 5”. The PIAA lights they usually mount in there are 3 1/2”:(

Can you make some angled brackets?
Interesting idea. As they sit they are backed up against the plastic underside of the headlight housing bezel. I used 1/2” or so spacers to push them out. If I wanted to angle them down they’d probably have to stick out on top. Or angle them back they might wind up a little...

I’ll probably just put them out on the crash bars or up high under the fairing. It’s disappointing as I bought them to increase visibility of the front of the bike. Studies show drivers identify the chrome fork legs on motorcycles first above and beyond anything else. I figured a couple of large round red horns had to have some positive effect on conspicuity.

After all they just legalized marijuana in NY!

I am pretty sure that the plastic trim under the headlight housing on a GEN2 is easily removable
and is strictly a cosmetic piece to cover up the open area under the headlight housing.

I believe it’s the same piece that also surrounds the headlight as a bezel though.

The yellow call-out arrow points to part # 53 (cover) which is a separate piece.
(This diagram is for a '14 S10)
Is this the part you are talking about?
