Well then, probably don't need them, other than reducing windage that comes around the sides of the windscreen. I put one on my bike with stock OEM windscreen and Madstad bracket. I think it helped, but cold and windy out and only have 100 miles on this bike, so time will tell. I'm getting a different windscreen today, so should be altogether more comfy cockpit. Expecting snowstorm on Friday so test ride will have to wait ::016::

I got the wind deflectors ordered yesterday. Snow moved in tonight and doesn't look like any riding will be had tomorrow.
I was able to install the Madstad brackets last night and gave them a short test ride. I was pretty satisfied, I just need to find the "Sweet Spot" setting.
This bike is so F#c%ing Awesome. ::015::

We're starting to get some flurries up this way as well. Predicting "up to 22 inches". No riding for quite a while.

9"-12" predicted here. Oh well it'll give me Saturday to install my AltRider crash bars. Fed Ex dropped them off today
10"-20" here in the metro area. Went out to the shed for snow blower gas. I find that if I'm prepared, it doesn't happen. I get the feeling it will happen this time.

I installed a Madstad bracket a week or so ago and took the bike for a ride. Scratched up the tank with my Levis (soft paint for sure), so I'm going to have to put something on the tank to protect the paint.

I installed a Vario windscreen, but will have to wait until snow melts (if it comes) to test ride. In the meantime I need to look for crash bars and skid plate. Altrider is nice, but pricey. I wonder if highway pegs would work on their engine guard? The bike will definitely be more of a tourer than a stump jumper, but I do look forward to some off the beaten path roads.

I have a FendaExtenda to put on. I think I will glue it on rather than use the tiny screws. That's the way I did it with the V-Strom and Wing. Used the blue glue for plastic pipe and a couple of pop rivets and worked fine.

Hope you and Rod don't get snowed in too bad tomorrow. I'm scheduled to take a girl's swim team up to Loveland tomorrow in school bus. Probably won't happen though. That'll give me more time for some internet 'shopping' for bits...

We ended up with about 8" overnight and still coming down with wind. No riding for a while!

I doubt you will be making the drive up this morning.......

After I thought about this I really should do more testing. I have the side defectors from Yamaha and the original screen as well as the Cal Sci short tinted screen. I think I posted this before also. I have been happier with the short Cal Sci and the side deflectors but really need to try the short screen with out the side deflectors or the OEM screen with side deflectors. Maybe when it warms up a bit, not that its really cold here; please don't laugh you all brave folks that ride when it really is cold. I'd really love to try the Cal Sci larger screen with the side deflectors ... (and so on and so forth ... )

Yes, side deflectors work great. Front air turbulence to the handlebard is almost eliminated...more driving confidence...

I just finally got around to removing the side deflectors to test with the CalSci shorty screen. I have to say I like the ride better without the side deflectors and with the short screen. I think at my 6'3" height I find it smoother overall this way. I guess I should really try the OEM screen with the side deflectors and will maybe. If I do I'll post it here but might be a long time waiting probably. It seems strange to me that the side deflectors would act that way.

I can say on another note what a huge difference riding without the panniers. I have the Yamaha ones and while I'm not sure what the panniers empty weight I bet I had ten pounds of gear in them maybe 15. Bet I get better mpg as well not dragging those blocks thru the air - ?

I've been able to get out do some good test rides the last few days. With the combination of the side wind deflectors and the madstad brackets the air is pretty calm at speed. This is while wearing my Arai XD3 with visor. This is a bit dependent on wind conditions but overall satisfied with the purchase.

I too have to say wind conditions can vary the observed results a whole lot.
I try to keep this in mind but for sure it makes it harder to judge.

Side winds hitting from either front 1/4 seem to make it the worst.
Head on not so bad. I am considering the MRA though.

That screen has been getting good reviews from forum members. The Givi screen TT offers is sharp looking and got some good forum reviews as well. I think I might trust MRA a bit more from a quality perspective though we haven't seen any complaints fromt he Givi owners in that regard. .

Thanks Tremor.
I will be seriously be considering a different windscreen if I do a long tour. For now the stock screen, Madstad's and deflectors work well for 100-150 mile days.
Too many other priorities,,,,,, Better footpegs, Tank bag, Bar risers, Better boots (Sidi Charger, or Crossfires. Maybe Gaerne), I need to quiet the den of snakes in my head. Where's my medication,,, ::010::

:D :D :D I know the feeling..and it's great to know I'm not alone 8) I'm just a short sh*t at 5'8" , so windscreens are on the back burner while I get the other gazillion choices narrowed down. I wished my last bike had somewhere near the farkle support the S10 enjoys, but I'm seeing how that can also be a headache at times :-\

Are the side wind deflectors only available through Yamaha dealers? Anybody know of a wholesaler that carries them?
