Okay I'll give this a shot here before exploding completely on these things. Short story, I pulled a 1400 mile trip this past weekkend. I used my lights a lot since most my riding was at night. Rode a bunch of gravel not the smoothest of surfaces but that has not been a issue to date. While waiting out a traffic accident on Saturday I was wiping dirt off a lense on my left side D2 and noticed it loose at the slide block that is held in place with a M3 set screw. It was a 2.5 mm allen which I did not have on me at the time. Fast forward, I get home to tighten up the screw on monday and the screw just turns and turns. In other words the threads were gone and in reality there is not enough there to begin with and on top of that in soft aluminum. So I called Twisted Throttle where I purchased the lights last Nov. I will be as nice about this here as I can. I was promised a email and a new pod but I was to send back the damaged one. Which was okay to me I just needed to remove it. I was a little grumpy to that since they were hard to install to begin with. I aggreed and hung up the phone waiting on that email, it has not arrived to date, 24 hours later. I called them this morning to touch base and to find out what where the email was. I was told that "guy" is not in yet and he would forward the message to that "guy" and they would get back to me and solve this issue with the lights. I am still waiting on that call and email which I suspect will never happen. Live and learn I suppose but I am not eating this $400 bucks.
So how would you go about fixing this thread issue? it is a very small hole in the pod and I am not sure a time insert or heli coil will work there. I thought about tapping some new threads one side larger than the current thread pattern and try a one size larger screw again not much room for even a larger screw. The "guy" at Twisted Throttle even suggested casually in during our conversation yesterday I try epoxy. No that won't work either and that is when he said he'd replace it. I am not sure what the problem is here it's well within the warranty as far as I read it. Also I noticed on the current installation instructions they spec red loctite on that screw. That is not on my instructions which I still have. There was also no mention of taking a rubber mallet and tapping that block in place before tightening the screw. That "guy" told me I was suppose to do that on install. I am not a mind reader it was not in the instructions, sorry.
So what am I to do here? doubtful I am getting a replacement pod at this point. I will try and call back one more time tomorrrow to work this out. The fact that I am not getting any response at all I feel that is just a waste of time. I need to get this light pod back on my bike so this $400 bad taste in my mouth will go away. Really is a sad state of affairs these days as a consumer.
