I have my KLR so I am good for riding. You could buy a 2500.00 KLR ride it for 3 months and sell it for 2500.00. 8) Or keep it like I am mine. It's a great bike for the money and always fun to ride. Good for tanking the rougher stuff and will cruise highway speeds all day. I don't think you would be bored, just not as comfortable or the same bike, just different fun!
A local dealer has new, older model KLRs for around $3500. He got them from other dealers that were closing. How could you go wrong?

My dealer informed one of my buddies today that our Tenere's (3 of us ordered them) are currently showing June delivery.
He mentioned they first showed July but it recently switched to June.

We all ordered them on September 15th
I have a problem with this since mine was ordered on Sept. 8th and I am being told July >:D

Can't attempt to explain why we are being told what we are by our particular dealers...this is my first experience with a PDP as well as Yamaha.
All I know is that I haven't had a road worthy ride in 7 years and I will be one happy camper when I receive it...whether it ends up 3 months or 5 months from now.

I am more worried about this winter finally making the decision to be over...it has been a long one

The way I see it... if I get a 2012 model bike BEFORE 2012... I'm good.

There are no guarantees in life, except death... everything else is pretty much manageable or stressful depending on how you'd like to view life in general.

Well, I ordered mine in Mid-October, and figured a Month's delay in getting it. Planned a looong trip-including Alaska-and now they say i MIGHT get it mid-July??? Are they breeding them so that it takes 9 months? Yamaha should have not mentioned ANY month in their advertising, or at least have been straight up about the lead time. BTW, they used your $500 without interest for the 9/10 months.

K woo, I ordered a couple of days before you and yesterday my dealer said my delivery was scheduled for August. When I inquired as to whether or not, this date was due to somekind of delay, he replied he would try to arrange an earlier delivery date. I'm not sure what to believe.

Perhaps they simply sold more bikes than they thought they would? The majority of members here ordered in Sept. and if that holds true for all of the US, then we might have a longer wait.

[size=18pt]Lotecredneck, can you shed some light on this subject?

I will try to give my "OPINION" on what is going on and what I think will happen, bear in mind this is my opinion, and you know about those................

I tried to login to the orders this morning, but the system is down for maintenence, but I will later today to get the information I need.

The reason some orders are showing a date before others I think is due to the color choice. Yamaha will run a production run of black for so many units then they will setup for a run of another color. When I can look at my orders I will be able to confirm this. I noticed this yesterday when I was looking at the orders, but did not take the time to write down the order dates versus delivery versus color.

All along Yamaha stated that deliveries will begin in May and I think we will more than likely see some of them in May! Deliveries are always an estimate as a number of things can impact the delivery schedule. First of all they have a schedule for production of each particular model and have only a production capability of XXXXX. The next thing that can impact deliveries is a vendor delay in providing the raw material to build each model. Bear in mind that just because these bikes are in production already in other countries, there will be items that are used for the U.S. market exclusively. This could be major items like exhaust systems, ecu's, blinkers, taillights, etc. A great deal of these exclusive items have to be D.O.T. approved and cannot be used in other countries. They schedule delivery of raw material and components to build every model to be delivered when the model begins production, and if any one item is delayed then the production is delayed.

Just like any manufacturer, they will not order 1,000 widgets from a vendor until they know how many widgets they are going to need. Common sense tells us that they wouldn't order 1,000 muflers if they only need 400! They will order an estimated quantity that may not be enough based upon initial orders or based on projections. In todays economy I would suspect they would be on the low end of projections especially since the bike has never been sold in this country. Like I said, it only takes one vendor to have a hiccup and it slows down the entire process.

Here is another problem, and I have seen this before........ These units come on ships and have to be unloaded in Long Beach. We have seen in the past ships that have sat in the harbor or at sea waiting to get into the harbor for weeks to be unloaded! With the slow down in the economy and layoffs affecting every business in the world, the docks could be understaffed to deal with any increase in shipments coming into the harbors froam abroad and also with the number of trucks available to move the product across the country once it has arrived. There have been a lot of trucking companies that have gone out of business in the past couple of years. There is much more involved than meets the eye.

We have one of the largest orders of Tenere's on order and when the system comes back up I will look at the information available to me and see if my suspicions are correct about the color impacting deliveries before another. My personal bike is on order 155954 and it is scheduled for June.

In 2006 we sold over 40 FJR's and a similar thing came about, but in the end the bikes came when they were originally estimated. Yamaha wants them in the hands of the consumer as fast as possible. They have no desire to warehouse and sit on inventory.

I will post more when I know more........... My head hurts..... ;D

:D All these excuses are hilarious.

Somehow Triumph can announce a brand new model to their entire global market and have it in showrooms across the globe 6 months later. Yet Yamaha, a much larger company, cannot get PRE-ORDERED bikes to customers in ONE country even 10 months later.

Yamaha is not through taking orders! This bike was not originally intended for the U.S. market. Triumph decided to bring the bike to the U.S. all along so who knows how long they had been working on it..........I am not making excuses, just telling you the cold hard facts of what could or is happening!

Of course, Yamaha has more different models in their model line-up in any single market than Triumph does worldwide, and probably produces more motorcycles in a single month, worldwide (and probably in some individual markets), than Triumph makes in a year.

Smaller companies can always react a bit quicker than larger ones. That's no mystery. ;)

Of course, I didn't see anyone in this thread actually making "excuses" for Yamaha, though it does seem a lot of customers in various states of dismay are trying to understand the situation.

I can't look at another dealers orders. You would need to talk to the dealer that placed the order to get that information.

Sorry,

Tony

Thanks Tony for some of the insight.

BTW, we should ALL realize that it serves no use to "shoot the messenger" when we see posts that may not present what we WANT to hear.

Thanks for the info Tony,

Brought to light the true complexities of the situation. I'd much rather have the bike in May, but, will take it when my dealer calls and says, come on down.

BTW...sorry I'm not in Texas...would absolutely buy through you.

Personally this late delivery has created a big problem for me. When I ordered the bike in November I talked my son and 2 other friends into buying adventure bikes and taking a trip to Alaska (the first time to Alaska for all of us). We all have the vacation time scheduled and are leaving at the end of July. I can't back out now after all the planning we have done and talking my friends into going, but it sounds like I may not have a bike to ride. All this maybe July, maybe August stuff is for the birds.
rent something to do the trip, maybe??

I would be interested in hearing what any of the purchase agreements said. My Canadian agreement has a completion date of August 15, 2011 for both parties. buyer to recieve the benefits of the program and Yamaha to deliver on the program. There was no mention of a potential delivery date. I can say that my discussions with the dealership at the time I put up the deposit in December were suggestive of a month behind US deliver ((May) which would be June delivery for Canadians.

It would really be interesting to find out just how small a build this North American SupaT comes out to be. In the big scheme of things, as stated earlier, I'll bet there aren't that many.
