Does anyone have an exciting-fun-scenic route from the Dallas-Fort Worth area to Deadwood, SD? I'm planning on a trip there and back (one week before the 75th Sturgis Anniversary). I'll be with a HD bagger, so I'm stuck to the pavement for this one. Suggestions for must go to/through points of interest will be a big help from which I can map out a route as well. Thanks.

Pretty boring ride there from here - about the best you can do is plan on coming south through Custer State Park and it will be fun from there.

If you guys haven't seen this or used it before your REALLY missing out.... My wife and I use this on road trips and we have a blast !!! I highly recommend it !! There are SO MANY really cool things one mile off the high-way that you would never see unless you use this app / web site or happen to live near it.... Try it !!! I think its great !

Can't really help much with the trip up there, but when you get to the Black Hills a couple of must ride roads are Spearfish Canyon and Vonocker Canyon road. Nemo road (via Vanocker Canyon) to hwy. 234 into Rapid City is a fun road too, usually with less traffic.

Here's a map -- freely available at almost any business in the Black Hills -- to help familiarize yourself with the area.

If you ever get up there on a dual-sport, there are hundreds of miles of gravel roads and trails to ride.

Up to Dodge City for tourist fun. Up to Grand Island, NE then take 2 all the way up to Alliance then Chadron then Wind Cave NP. Take the Wind Cave tour, it is spectacular. Take a day to Devil's Tower if you can considering all the superb riding in the Black Hills.

Another option might be to sign up for the Tour of Honor and collect bonus locations in the various states up and back. That option made my trip last year from Idaho to Miami and back very enjoyable, even across the flat states.

If you don't mind another 1,000 miles (round trip)... http://goo.gl/maps/5RLBd

... Devil's Tower, never been but would like to.
... Cody WY, I liked this city. Definitely a Harley kinda place. Good food and bars. Liquor stores close early (yes you can ask me). A lot of entertainment.
... Chief Joseph Highway, very beautiful and fun to ride.
... Beartooth Pass WY/MT, 10,947 ft, beautiful and a must ride.
... Top of the World WY, 9,400 ft, worth the stop for coffee, stickers and a bit of history.
... Red Lodge MT, Harley kinda town in the summer.
... Yodeler Lodge, nice owners, enjoyed my stay, a hot tub.

... with a little research I am sure there is a highlight in Gillette, Buffalo, Sheridan, Lovell, Powell,... I came from CA AZ UT WY and don't know these areas.

... Sinclair brews a non-ethenol 92 octane (not all stations have it). I call it Rocket Fuel. I normally get 43 mpg and got as high as 59 mpg while in UT WY MT.

If I had the time I would consider going thru Amarillo and riding the eastern edge of Colorado. There are a lot of good paved side roads less than 50 miles west of I25 that you can take and come out at Loveland, CO. To name a couple look at Hwy 7 & Hwy 72. Go up to Cheyenne, WY then cut over to Deadwood. Roughly 300 -350 miles extra one way.
