I was just suggesting the Tenere is not a B-17.. :-\
You can often rent/borrow a ring compressor tool from auto parts stores. It's just a simple cylinder that can be adjusted for different size pistons, squeezes the rings down and then you push the piston into the engine cylinder so the rings don't get damaged.Zepfan said:Gonna be fun! ::010:: starting re assembly
Pulled the cylinder body to replace lower gasket and bent a oil ring trying to feed piston back into cylinder.
Ordered from Japan one ring set $130.
Gulp, I sure hope this ain't a "can of worms."
Need 2 people to feed pistons and ring compression by hand back into cylinders.
Valve guide ?? I have A swidisch bike magasine where they drove A super tenere 2011 hard for 50 000 km ( 30 000'miles ) ...Zepfan said:Ouch!
So what'cha thank on the broken bit Jax? Back to the title....... JUNK TENERE ??
I don't know if there is a compelling reason either way, but it's been done at least a few times now. I recall there is a compression change, but how or if that really impacts anything is unknown. I do know that on a warranty claim, they will not put Gen II pistons in a Gen I motor unless you want to pay for it yourself. And no changes to the rods are required if you do this. The rings are unique to each Gen piston, so you either buy Gen I pistons that come with rings, or buy Gen II pistons and order Gen II rings to go with them.OldRider said:I'm still wondering something, does anyone know of a reason not to use generation 2 pistons and rings in a generation 1 engine so you can buy just one set of rings at a time?
