.... Is this a true "Powerlet" compatible outlet - or simply the cigarette lighter style as found in the storage compartment as OEM on various bikes (Gold Wing, FJR, etc)???
Nope ..... it's the cigarette lighter style .... exactly the same as the FJR. If I didn't say already .... powerlet do make an adaptor. Not sure how how good that is ... would like to know. Powerlet Products are great but way over priced in the UK.

Thanks - that's what I thought. I have an adapter and have used it as a short term solution. I think a better choice is to swap out the existing power plug and install a powerlet (or compatible) plug.

Just installed my gps holder. Going to test drive it now. It's holding my 660. I had to search for this post and noticed the complaint. One other thing, if you install the gps holder, you have to enlarge one of the holes for the air deflectors to get them on. Pictures to follow.

This looks like the right thread to post this, if not throw me out.. lol

I am looking for ideas on where to mount two powerlets and the controllers for my heated gear. From pictures of the bike I think it might work if these were mounted between the tank and side cover.

Any Ideas or better yet pictures?
Thanks

Been thinking the same.
The existing cigarette plug is good for 3 amps and a Gerbings jacket needs about 6.5 full hot, so that won't work.

I ride with a 'Stich in the winter and bring the power in through the left hip zipper. So far, I'm thinking to make a tab for under the seat for the heat plug and for the Autocom jack.

I use gerbing electric gear usually just clip the controller to my belt and just wire a power lead to stick out a few inches below and towards the front of the seat somewhere between the seat/tank/frame ect, where it can be tucked out of the way when not in use and just connect/disconnect the lead from the controller to it when needed.

I installed my powerlet socket today. Put it in the inside hole in cross brace behind the seat and shock. Ran straight to battery with 20 amp fuse so I can run my air pump or what ever else I might need. Made up a powerlet plug with 2 wire SAE connector about 12" long for other connections that might be needed. The Powerlet socket came with a nice rubber boot to go on the back so hopefully it will keep it clean inside.

That looks great! Would you be able to post a couple more pics or info? I am an electrical luddite.

Thanks,

Chris

Last sunday i finally was able to install the SW Motech "nonshock gps mount" witch i ordered 3 weeks ago. Yesterday evening i took the damn thing back of again.
Nonshock ???.....yea right ...... it dances around like it has a bug up it's ... and after 20 min driving around the gps screen is nothing more then a blur.
Not only that but the zumo 550 cradle blocks part of the view to the cockpit display.
Just a heads-up on the vibration issue and how well available mounts deal with it. My Zumo 550 has been down Route 40 to Ushuaia on gravel and rock and washboard on other bikes with a TT Zumo 550 "normal" antivibration locking mount with no problems. When I installed that same bracket onto the Super Tenere, to a horizontal bar on TT's Windshield Adjuster piece in very short order two of the push buttons vibrated off the face of the GPS unit :))

I have now gone to TT's full MV maximum isolation Zumo 550 locking mount, again installed in the same position. Better mount and same location I know but I like it up there completely clear of the clocks and in direct line of sight without looking away from the road. Will let you know how it goes.

Roger, it sounds as if we have the same setup (GPS mount & screen). The fully-damped TT mount for the 550 is secure, and the unit is legible on the move, but it moves around too much on its "suspension" for my liking. You can adjust that out, to some extent, by fixing zip ties to limit the movement of the two parts of the mount relative to each other. Regarding the TT screen adjuster, it's worth regularly checking the adjuster thumbscrews are tight. One of mine vibrated loose without me noticing and disappeared down the road somewhere, taking the associated washers and bolt with it. I'm still waiting for Touratech to supply replacements., or indeed to confirm that they are able to.......
