The centre stem has a rubber cap protecting it. This is easily removed leaving the open stem to allow the insertion of a Techmount stem unit. This is the route that I'll take to mount my GPS as I don't want to over clutter the bars. I'm currently using a Powerlets Power Bar fitting .... very good but not the look that I'm after.

This is the stem mount and it's application. The stem nut on an XT1200Z is purely a nut and not a cap, i.e., it has a hole right through it. The stem is protected by a rubber plug which acts as a cover and which is easily removed.

This is the Powerlet Powerbar Plus that I'm currently using ... it's good but doesn't float my boat ::)

This pic shows the power bar and the pazzos ... not great detail but you get the drift.

Yeah I get ya drift, gives me some ideas, you mentioned ya not happy with the powerbar so whats ya plans?

On my current ride my GPS sits of to the right hand side but would like to get it more central on the Super Tenere.

Unless Touratech come out with something amazing and quick I'll go the Techmount stem unit route. Whack it right in the middle. Their stuff is nice .... I use the mirror mount unit on my FJR for carring incidentals like iphone, radar detector etc.

Don't no one go out buy the Techmount stem mount just yet. I had a quick look at the set up of the bike and it maybe that the alignment of standard fat bars might just prevent installation. Will get back on this.

Here's a shot of the top clamp/stem nut with the rubber bung/cover removed. Check out the line of the bars ... it will likely prohibit the insertion of a stem mount. :(

More edification. For those of you wondering how those SW-Motech mounts, that Homer61 has bought, will fix. Here's a shot of some nicely presented holes for the fixing of ancillary devices. ;D One just behind the screen mounting assembly, another two on the black plastic panel above the fairing.

They're acually there in order to mount the optional deflector screens but they'll do nicely for all manner of other kit. I'm going to hook up a gear change indicator to one of them.

Last sunday i finally was able to install the SW Motech "nonshock gps mount" witch i ordered 3 weeks ago. Yesterday evening i took the damn thing back of again.
Nonshock ???.....yea right ...... it dances around like it has a bug up it's ... and after 20 min driving around the gps screen is nothing more then a blur.
Not only that but the zumo 550 cradle blocks part of the view to the cockpit display.

I wonder if these mods ever get tested before they put them on the market.

Oh well.....another 45€ down the drain. ::)

I have a pic witch i could post if i only knew how to :-[

This looks like the right thread to post this, if not throw me out.. lol

I am looking for ideas on where to mount two powerlets and the controllers for my heated gear. From pictures of the bike I think it might work if these were mounted between the tank and side cover.

Any Ideas or better yet pictures?
Thanks

You do know that you've got a power outlet as standard don't you. Assuming that you do and 'need' two more, there is plenty of room within the cockpit area to mount them. There is a mod whereby you can fix to the underside of the instrument console. There are 4 pre drilled holes in on the plastics, 2 each side that are intended for the wind deflectors ... these could make very convenient bracket fixings. I'm going to place a double down around the sub frame ... I'm sure Powerlet will devise a bike specific bracket. I'm currently using a Powerlet power bar with a Ram ball attachment fixed to my bars. Works fine but I'll be changing it as it doesn't have the right look for me. there are some pics on here of all of that stuff. If you get stuck ... shout and I'll look em out.

Is the one installed OEM a "real" Powerlet/BMW compatible socket?

Swagger, I have looked at your setup and don't think that would work for me. I will be putting a gps in the cockpit along with some other items. Although, after thinking about this, it may not be all that bad......

I had thought about putting the outlets and controller pots and two small led indicators somewhere between the tank and a panel. I can build a bracket for this as well as one for the cockpit area... decisions, decisions.... It gets really hard without the bike. ;D
I also have a Fuze block I want to use and will need to install under the seat, or another dry location.

Is there a switched aux off the Tenere fuse panel?

Is this a true "Powerlet" compatible outlet - or simply the cigarette lighter style as found in the storage compartment as OEM on various bikes (Gold Wing, FJR, etc)???
