There's lots of aluminum dust in my clutch master cylinder. I bought the rebuild kit, but forgot to get the snapring pliers.

Three questions:
1: Which snapring pliers are you using?
2: Is aluminum dust in the clutch reservoir normal?
3: If not, would a rebuild solve the problem, or do I need a new master?

1: knipex
2: yes
3: normal and probably don’t need a new one.

Depending on how many miles you have, that dust gets down to the slave cylinder, and ruins that. No rebuild for the lower, just have to buy new. If you want the lower to last longer, while you rebuilding the top, pull the lower off and take it apart and ‘wash’ the crap out of it.

Thanks for the info!
50k miles on the clutch
Specifically, which pair of snapring pliers, if you have a link of where to purchase them...

Currently I don’t. They are the small nose ‘deep’ ones. They have many to choose from.
Knipex.com I believe. They are kind of like German Snap-On

Last Monday we had an amazing ride with 3500 motorcycles along the “Elfstedentocht”. Pretty sure it’s well known worldwide. Every year I ride it on a motorcycle. Around halfway I noticed a squeecky (is that a word?) noise from my clutch lever. So i upshifted the rest of the day without using the clutch lever. No problem. At home I noticed the small dust rubber that covers the pushrod had past away. No single rubber available, had to buy a complete kit from Yamaha (€72).So decided I just to rebuild the whole master cylinder since I had all the parts. Took me 2 hours including a fluid change while I was at it. Nice little job.
