So I'm doing my second oil change at 1600 miles cause that's what I wanted to do.
1st @ 600, then 1000 miles later too.

Anyway...
I'm done topping off the 3.6 quarts & the oil plug filler cap falls from the footpeg where I placed it & the damn thing cracks off a good part of the edge!!!

WTF???

It's not old. It should not be brittle. Yamaha use to give you a aluminum cap on most bikes.
It's obviously not even good strong plastic. Better watch tightening one down cause I bet it will crack in half.
The cap didn't even fall that far. It wasn't like it fell from my hands while walking around the garage. It fell from the damn foot peg.

Rant over.

Thanks but after seeing them for like $50 bucks on Touratech, I just ordered another OEM yesterday for $10 shipped.
I prolly would have bought yours, if I'd known.

I'll now be a little more careful with the next oem.

Joe-Joe,

If it was not raining so dang hard we would have been riding then you would not have changed your oil today. Hope the shipping is fast for ya.

Put the new one in your pocket when you do your next oil change. :))

YAMAHA have copped enough crap already because the bike weighs so much. Anyway I dropped mine a few times because it had some slippery synthetic stuff on it, and it was fine.

I think maybe you we just lucky. :D

+1, it must've hit just the right way. Doesn't everyone make plastic oil fill covers nowadays? ??? I know that because all the aftermarket dudes make billet aluminumum replacements. ::010::

What size are they and which other bikes interchange ?
Maybe one from a less new model would be cheaper for metal ?

I did a search on this forum & the said part was listed in the list of maintenance part numbers that someone here piled together.
Then Dr. Google provided the oil cap part number was for sale on Boats.net or something, where I ordered it for like $8.50...$10 bucks shipped

I also noticed the part was universal to many other motorcycles such as FJR.
I bet the oil fill plug cap is the same on yamaha 4 stroke marine motors as well
