Are there many 2012 and 13s with high mileage that didn't have the cct and clutch basket replaced? My 13 has 9,000 runs great, but I keep an ear out.Gotta stop worrying about it.

I've put the new basket in my 12 but not the cct yet. But I'm only a little over 13k.

First, 9,000 miles is not a lot of miles and if it is running great, then keep on trucking'

My suggestion is to keep listening for the start-up sound of the continuous timing chain slap, until doing an upgrade when you do the valve check at 26,000 miles. People who've had problems are well past that number of miles.

As for the clutch basket, I sold my Gen1 at 50,000 and it still was running smooth. Not all bikes need the swap.

For more info, please just do a search as there are numerous previous threads.

Yes. Mine with the original basket wasn't bad at all but I wanted to see what difference the new style basket made. It is smoother.

52,200 miles the CCT failed upon startup. Y.E.S. replaced almost everything from the crankshaft to a rebuilt head. I paid to have the Clutch Basket replaced. Three months and 23 days later I was able to ride my 2012 Tenere. Ran and performed so well I could not believe it. Rode it for 65 miles and traded it in on a 2015 ES the next day. I knew that the best money I could get was now.

The Gen1 CCT is not going to get better though only worse until eventual failure. This failure can cost you a TON of money if it is not under Warranty or Extended Warranty. Replacing the CCT is not very expensive.

I replaced my clutch basket because of the vibration. Big difference for me, as I have carpal tunnel in my right wrist. I also had the updated CCT put in at 26K miles when I had the valve check done. I had no indications that it was going bad, but since they were already in the engine, and no additional labor cost, why not spend $100 more and get the piece of mind.

Same here. Much improved. Lucky to have it done for free too. ::015::

I am looking at a used 2013, less than 10K with YES. Looks like the CCT is not a huge deal, about $100 if done during the valve check. What is the cost of the Clutch Basket?

I have a 2012 with 39,000 miles.CCT is now making noise on start up,lasts for 2 or 3 seconds then goes away.Question is will Yamaha warranty at this point or does it need to get worse?I am still covered with y.e.s.

Depends how your dealership presents it to Yamaha.

Mine was intermittent, and once warm it never did it. I stated shooting video every time I started it. When I got video with the rattle, took it to my dealers service manager and he said "you need a CCT" and ordered parts and scheduled me in under YES. I has a really good dealer.

Can you post a very short video with the noise of the CCT? I'd like to hear how it sound. I haven't changed mine yet, with 25k km (around 16k miles) on the clock.

Can't find it in those threads (though one of them is very long!). But coming to think of it I do recall see/hearing a video of a bad CCT in action. I will look for it more intensely.

If you put this much time into thinking about... change the CCT and you will never have to be concerned again.

I'm not sure about the Gen 2 bikes, but I thought they all rattled on start up for at least 2-3 seconds, it's when they continue past this than it's time to investigate a change.
