For those of you who have changed your CCT either for the redesigned Yamaha one or the manual one, what are your opinions please. I replaced mine at the first valve check as my ST was suffering from the dreaded camchain rattle at start up approx 25k klms ago for the new Yamaha one. Over the last 1k klms or so, I am beginning to hear a similar noise at start up. Any one in the same boat?.

Cct... Put the pressure to camchain with oilpressure ( if you have the genuine orginal ) .

Why ???? does people have problem ? Whyred do They " brake " ??

My personly thinking is : the OIL !! ?? Real motorcycle oil , hoppfulle BETTER than YAMALUBE , and the big thing , that the oil is GOOD to " clean" engine inside and put the soot from the engine burning in the oilfilter than stuck in small oil ducts ( google translate ; ) ... )

" leftovers" from the engine running and from our clutch ( wet- clutch ) must be put where it belong and not get stuck were its not sopose to be .. ( like CCT ) .....

Both GREAT API reated oil AND C3 ( cleaning classification ) perhaps ???

Thats what i THINK ....... My super10 has yet not cone so many Miles

Its interesting you bring this up... I was just talking to someone a few days ago about the CCT.. And it would seem how dependent the viscosity, and other things can effect the pressure against the stock CCT... I was thinking about posting a "deep thought" discussion about the stock unit 12or14.. Its interesting to me how there might be many factors in a good VS bad unit...

To the original poster... Stick a manual one in and be done with it... my 12 rattled a little, I installed a 14 and its doing the same as the 12 now.... I've now got a manual on order...

I have this 2014 CCT that's been sitting for several months. I may be overthinking it, but is it possible that it could loose some spring strength since it has not been released for a long time? Could it have a shelf life? My 2012 has been running good so I'm not in a big hurry to replace it, but maybe should if damage could occur? Imagination running wild.

Springs wear out (lose springiness) when they get used. Sitting under tension compressed or stretched does not wear them out.

Jaxon, which one did you order, the Graves Yamaha one?

Is the oil pressure provided to the CCT for the purpose of pressurizing the unit, or spraying oil? Is there an orifice on the stock one that directs the oil onto the cam chain, for instance? I don't actually see how oil pressure is for pumping up the device, because it has a strong spring that pushes out the plunger, and the plunger ratchets outward as the cam chain stretches.

If a MCCT stops a vital spray of oil, I would be inclined to wait for a better designed unit at a later date.

Is the oil pressure provided to the CCT for the purpose of pressurizing the unit, or spraying oil? This is a manual.. Its the only one that I know of that has the oil passage machined into the back to replicate the 'oil passage' like the stock.

Is there an orifice on the stock one that directs the oil onto the cam chain, for instance? There is an orifice on the stock one that lets the oil back out of the unit. You can see the cut relief on the stock unit.

I don't actually see how oil pressure is for pumping up the device, because it has a strong spring that pushes out the plunger, and the plunger ratchets outward as the cam chain stretches.
The GRAVES is manual with a precision fine thread 'bolt' and an aluminum body, no oil pressure required..

If a MCCT stops a vital spray of oil, I would be inclined to wait for a better designed unit at a later date... They all do this BUT the Graves.... http://www.gravesport.com/Graves-Motorsports-Yamaha-R1-High-Precision-Cam-Chain-Tensioner.html
