i bought my 2012 new August of 2014 got an extra year of YES for free, I took the bike in for the 26k valve adjust and asked for the tech to listen to the bike on cold start to make sure that the noise was "normal" long story short dealer is saying my cam chain is worn and I also need a tensioner. He had an estimate for me, I told the dealer that it is not normal wear at 26k and to submit a claim to YES so of coarse it is a long weekend and he said we won't have an answer until Monday-Tuesday, it seems like they are going to make me pay but we will see if I have to fight with Yamaha on this.....stay tuned..

If anybody has had to fight to get this covered and has any advice please chime in.

Find another dealer, quick. I don't think he can put his ear to it and determine the chain is wore out. That would require a look inside. If the adjuster is shot, it's going to make the noise.

::026:: chain guide or CCT, not likely the chain, but in any event, it should be under warranty even though it is a 'wear' item.....

He inspected the chain during the valve adjust I don't see how a chain can wear out in 26k miles unless it had a defective tensioner.

Yamaha is covering the tensioner, I guess it doesn't need a chain.....

Tech probably just quoted the chain to cover himself.

I am happy but no bike for a week. :-[

2 days to get the part and the shop is booked solid until Saturday....

Bike shops are busy here in AZ this time of the year.

How bad was your rattle? My 2012 has 20k and lightly rattles for 5-15 seconds only on cold start... No YES.

Did you check with Apache? I used their shop on Camelback when I had the O-Ring recall done.

My rattle 90% of the time was just light rattle for 2-5 seconds but it occasionally was loud, duration was the same 2-5 seconds but loud. I don't know how loud it was for the tech when he started it but I don't think the rattle is "normal" and neither did my dealer. My rattle really didn't start until about 15k miles.

I have been to Apache on Camelback for other bikes I have owned I like them, but now I live in Maricopa and work on Camelback so if I leave my bike there it is much harder to get a ride home. I bought the maintenance plan at RideNow so the bike was already there.

O-ring recall?? for the ST?

I replaced my factory tensioner (25,000 miles) with a manual tensioner last week. What a difference!
Thanks to this forum, I was able to do it with no problems. I have no YES so the job only took a couple of hours with an oil change.
MCCT-$69 (not a Graves)

After going from a stock 12 over to a new 14 with no change, I dropped a Graves in and never looked back. Folks can read my past post with photos. Has worked great. We have been so impressed with the Graves we carry and ship them often.

I put a graves in from Tobasco after my 12 started making noise when cold, problem gone. Mine was put in around 14,000 miles.

New tensioner same noise.....that not cool, kinda disappointing. I wish I hated the bike I would trade it in.. ::26:: But I love it ::012::

Maybe when mine has no more warranty left I will put the graves in.

Hopefully I can find someone local that has done it to help me out...
