Looking for info.
Anyone found and have feedback on an aftermarket stator? Mine smoked a couple weeks back and it is time to get it taken care of. Hoping to find something to save a few bucks and maybe get a little more output.

Pic for visual effect.

What caused the burn up? I burned one on a '98 KZ1000P back in the day, but it had a pretty heavy electrical load.

Beats me. Load was low when it failed. Like most it's got all the goodies, but LED headlights and LED driving lights lighten the load. Worst case is lights, GPS, Phone, grips, seat and jacket.

2019 went to AK early in the season. Ran the grips and jacket all day every day. That was thousands of miles ago.

ETA it's just hanging off the side of the bike. I'll get the tank off and fish the harness out and get a good look at it. My guess is over time a wire vibrated and grounded out. 109k miles.

Sorry to hear your Stator failed.
Seems like the Super Tenere Stator failure rate has been pretty low or maybe we just haven’t been hearing about them ?
What does a new Stator cost ?
Is it difficult to replace ?

Seems to be a pretty rare failure on these bikes? I have had some bikes that had stator issues (Triumph Tiger 955, Honda CBR1100XX, GSXR600) and it seems like the regulator/rectifier also would fail at the same time....like one caused the other to burn out. Just something to consider, you might need to get them as a set.

I think you have three options. 1. Buy an oem Yamaha stator est. $325. 2. Have Ricks Motorsport Electrics rebuild yours, probably save $100. 3. Some internet aftermarket stator most likely made in China. If not in a hurry, I would call Ricks and see how fast they can sell you one or rebuild yours. I would not waste money on any China made stators. They are guaranteed to fail sooner or later, probably sooner and at the worse time. JMO

Sounds like @~TABASCO~ has you sorted, but otherwise you could consider RM Stator for a replacement.

The stator should be perfectly capable of running at full output all the time, so check out the wiring & make sure the reg/rec is good.

Some recommend a new R/R when replacing the stator as a matter of course.

If the regulator/rectifier fails, it is most likely that the generator will stop generating... if the battery is shorted, or a cable (from the battery or from the chassis terminals, is loose/cut/sulfated... the alternator would be working permanently forced…trying to maintain a voltage that is not well read by the regulator due to a bad contact

The rectifier regulator was an absolute mfer to get unplugged. Release clips inboard between the connector and the electric panel. New one is about $300 US. The harness will be entertaining to fish out. I had to drop the crash bars (Rumbux) to get the cover and stator off.

Ricks is definitely on my radar, I have friends with Triumphs. We actually had a Ricks rectifier overnighted to a campground in Thermopolis WY during a ride! AWESOME FOLKS!

PM incoming Jaxon.

So apparently the used stator you bought from Mr Tobasco is now installed in your Tenere and working fine ? Hopefully it lasts a lot longer than your original stator lasted. How big of a job was installing it ?
Sorry for the delay.

Minor PITA getting the harness out. And it has rare earth magnets in the rotor. Be careful, they are strong enough to mash fingers.

Yep, in and functionioning. The original went 109K miles, This winter when boredom sets in I am going to unwind the old one and see if it shows me anything.
