Couldn't see a recent thread by searching for "brake disks",

My rear is done, front will be in due course, so a question for the community,

Looking to save money obviously, but not at the cost of safety/performance.

What are your thougths on OEM vs 3rd party brake disks,

Alternatively, anyone selling theirs /braking a low-mileage bike?

The fronts say Galfer but there’s no such marking on the rear rotor. No telling who makes it. I replaced my rear with OEM as it was actually cheaper (via Partzilla) than any of the aftermarket options.

When I replace mine I’ll use PFMs. Galfers are good but PFMs are the best I’ve used

I’m hear stories that Brembo disk quality is not what it used to be since they started making them in China

I'd go OEM. Despite riding lots of different bikes with OEM and aftermarket rotors (including my own track bike), I really feel a difference with pads, master cylinder and lines upgrades. I'm sure if I were more talented and rode at higher performance level, I'd appreciate WSBK spec rotors. For how I ride my S10 though (hard and super spirited), I'll be getting OEM rotors when the time comes. All my braking funds will soon be going into pads, steel braided lines, master cylinder and caliper rebuilds. Just my non-pro 2 cents. Wishing you satisfaction whatever you decide :)

The Zx14r disks are stamped out of a roll of steel so they have a slight warp built into them. This can be better or worse depending on where from the roll they are taken. PFMs are parallel ground for a perfectly flat disk and the braking surface can be removed and changed if they wear out without changing the rotors

I haven’t heard anything to support that, but where there’s smoke…..! I guess there are Chinese manufacturers and Chinese manufacturers, it simply depends on the companies standards, there is good and bad everywhere but it is good that you have made us aware.

With "some" experience with this bike... my only thought is this, as I've experienced it MANY times..... I think the stock is OK, after market is OK, and most quality brands are OK.....

What I would like to point out is the pad mated to the disc. We could really get into the weeds soon the topic, but I would suggest using the same manufactures pad as the disc you might use. The disc typically will last longer. I have seen this where folks use (brand X disc) & (Brand X pad) and it wears the pad fast and the disc fast... That doesn't save money when they chew each other apart.....

Just keep your eye out and try and match them up with the same manufacture if possible....... "last longer"
