I can tell you for me it's not the Shoei Hornet DS (first gen) I bought last year. I've grown to really dislike this thing. Just doesn't work for me. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on going back to an Arai XD* helmet. I had the 3 and really liked it. Planning to get the 4 and just put the Hornet experience in the rear view mirror.

I had to do the same thing with the Hornet DS....adios Shoei

This is a how long is a piece of string thread ::017::

Caberg for a while but i do 30-40,000 miles a year so lids only last me 2 seasons max and look to get a new one and no interest in off road style ones. Has to have a drop down sun visor and prefer flip lid so I can talk to folk without taking lid off when out working (Tenere is a works bike)

I have an Arai XD4 and love it! I tried three other helmets before I got the XD4. They are expensive but are worth it! Very comfortable!
I've had all the 1-4 models of the XD and loved them all, every new model has had slight improvements, I really like the improved faceshield detents on the XD 4. had a pin lock shield on my XD 3 which is about perfect when riding in the rain (no fogging) but something caused the inner shield to get sort of a non removable streak stain on it so I plan on ordering a new inner pinlock before installing it on the XD 4. Some folks talk about high speed causing visor problems but I've never experienced anything like that and I've had it up to 126 mph indicated on GPS . But kinda like seats different brands works different for different riders, bought my first Arai helmet in 1992 and thought it was kinda crazy to pay that much but Arai is the only brand I've bought since even though I've considered many other brands.

Due to florida heat I went with the Shoei GT-Air Helmet. 2 years and still happy with it. I do mostly road riding and I really love the flip sunshade visor as I come over a hill or around a corner with our ultra bright sunsets.

I've been wearing Arai XD's ever since they came out, XD4 right now.
Does your XD4 whistle like mine does? I have adjusted the visor up and down and still find myself adjusting the position of my head to avoid the annoying whistling sound it makes.

Nope never noticed any whistling, so you think the sunvisor is somehow causing the whistle ? What windshield is on your Tenere ? Mine has a tall windshield which probably helps a little but I think Yamaha engineers could have done a lot better job designing the Tenere windshield.

Living in the warmer desert air I like to run my low Parabellum. That is when the whistling occurs.

I do have the extra-tall Parabellum for longer rides that involve higher speeds and that solves the whistle. But, it also takes away most of the air.

Anyhow, just hoping Arai figures this out with the next generation XD.

I have a long oval head and can only wear Arai Signet -Q type helmets in the street, and have not found one skinny enough for my weird head in the ADV world. I took some notes from ADVrider.com, and will try some on this summer when I am travelling. The local shops seem to only like HJC, Rocket, Icon stuff, or Chinese helmets I have never heard of.

I too wear an Arai Signet -Q. Best helmet for me and my long oval head. I have an LS2 Pioneer in trigger graphics arriving today. It is supposed to fit a long oval profile.I will report back when I get some miles with it.

Arai works for my narrow head, although I have a Scorpion right now (love modulars) that I have spooned out a little.

Frustrating when most binoculars I try isn't narrow enough that I can use both eyes at the same time.

Must be a CAlifornia thing with long narrow heads. I have used two Signet-Q's though have always wanted to find a different brand with a different less noisy visor.

Interested in the LS2. Keep us posted.
