Ok guys, what is the best helmet for the adventure rider, given say 60 percent on the street and 40 in the dirt. Your opinions, please. Presently wearing a Shoei Multitech. ::021::

My riding distance used to be limited by the time it took for my head to start hurting because of my helmet. Since i started wearing a shark explore-r that is no longer the case. I can ride all day, now the first thhing to start hurting is normally my right wrist.

::026:: I'm currently wearing a Shoei Hornet X2. In the past I had the Hornet DS and RF1100.

Just saw an ad for Schuberth's new E1 Adv helmet. LOL, it's essentially a C3, why mess with perfection, but with a beak and more venting.

Or an Arai 4 Tour X? I have ridden an Arai Tour X helmet for about 12 years now from the version 2 then the 3 and now a 4. Used them in below zero C and + 38 C. Not the lightest but well made and can ride all day in it. Its expensive but what price to protect your brain? Japanese Quality hand made helmet with a 7 year warranty in EC and in Uk you can get it "serviced" and checked every year at our major bike show every November for FREE!

I wear glasses. The Shoei Neotech with its internal sun visor has been an excellent choice. So nice not having to swap between sunglasses and regular glasses. Mine also has high viz borealis graphics. I've got a Sena Bluetooth speakers inside. Very comfortable helmet.

Before I bought it, I went to Cycle Gear and tried on several helmets, including the Hornet DS.

Revzilla is closing out the Neotech, so suspect a new version about to be released.

This web site http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/motorcycle-helmet-shapes.htm can help you with an idea of helmets that may work for you.

I used to wear the Shoei Hornet DS but found it had too much buffeting. I now wear the Shark Speed-R with a Sena SMH-10. The Shark shields are the best I've ever seen. However, the ventilation can use some work!!

This

Fly trekker Worked well for me, I liked the ECE safety rating, however the helmet has faded quickly, a slider for a top vent stopped working right off and the chin strap sits back a bit far.

I am now trying the Gmax GM11d. I like the big tab for opening your visor as well as the larger tabs on the vents wee clearly made for a gloved hand, really like that as well. I have not ridden with it enough to give a review beyond stated.

I can tell you for me it's not the Shoei Hornet DS (first gen) I bought last year. I've grown to really dislike this thing. Just doesn't work for me. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on going back to an Arai XD* helmet. I had the 3 and really liked it. Planning to get the 4 and just put the Hornet experience in the rear view mirror.

Changing my review, now that I've had a it a while. The helmet loosened up enough that it moves on my head far too much. Further, the only use for the visor is to make the helmet rotate up and aft on my head, as it is too high for a sun visor. This helmet is going away.

ORIGINAL TEXT:
I recently picked up one of these Bell MX9 Adventure Raid for a steal of a price. Didn't really need yet another helmet but it just fit really well and at the price it was hard to turn down.

So far it's been great for the KTM, but not really right for the Tenere. Lots of air moves through it, nice and light, great visibility, and t's nice that the bill is removable. The optics of the face shield is not as good as Shoei but far better than the cheap helmets. Downsides are more road noise, which limits usefulness of hearing music from the SMH10, and with the bill the thing catches wind at highway speeds on the Tenere. Probably only a matter of time till I lose one of the screws holding the bill on.
