Well my last week started off a bit less than stellar. We had the grand Tenere vs. Lowe's truck event. It was pretty unfair from the very beginning, he had reverse......I didn't. Lot of things run through your mind when you see reverse lights come on in the truck in front of you and you are sitting stopped in the roadway. First - little itty bitty horn doesn't make enough noise against back up beeps and a raised window, Second - He doesn't see me, Third - I have no place to go (deep ditch and fence on the right, blind corner ahead of truck so left not really an option either), Fourth - Hope I can roll away fast enough and there isn't any oncoming cars. Should start finding out this week how it all plays out with Lowe's.

Damn (How am I driving)?
Was this guy backing up into some resident site?
Any questions from the cop on how close you were to the truck?
Looks like Lows owes you a new ride..

Driver went past the delivery driveway, once the sheriff found out I was stationary he never asked me another question other than if I was ok or if I needed a tow.

Oh my.... glad to here you walked away from that one.
Do I see a new 2014 in your future??

Safety tip.... I try stay near the center line and back far enough so that driver can see me in their rear view mirror.

Agree, could have been closer to the fog line or center line but was definitely back far enough for him to see me if he looked at the very beginning of the reverse episode.

Ya. General rule that I follow is. If I can't see his mirror, he can't see me. Apply's to either side of the truck, bus, car, van or whatever.

When I first saw this, I thought you ran into him, that would be a lot worse for you. Glad you're ok.

Glad you're ok. Think positive: with all the money invested into your s10, lowes owes you a new 2014 Es or threat to sue. Most large companies will fold and just pay.

Good luck and, again, glad you're ok and it was only your bike that was under the truck, and not you.

Thanks, initial phone conversations seem mostly positive. Waiting for the total tally of cost.

Thanks Jaxon, appreciate it. Already explained to AltRider that their crash bars utterly failed in use as a jack stand for a Lowe's truck. :)) ::015::

Wow - glad you're okay!

I'm guilty of not following my own rule about seeing their mirrors from time-to-time - sounds like you were doing it right and the driver just messed up.

Good to hear that you walked away unscathed. What was the driver's reaction after-the-fact?

Glad to hear you were not injured. What was leaking from your left pannier?

I have a front fender like that and know the 'helpless feeling'. Happened a little over two years ago on a downhill off-ramp of 101 N to 46 W (Templeton/Paso Robles). Pickup truck with a painted black rear window should have been a hint. Drove me back about 18 inches and surprisingly I did not go down. Ended up with a broken front fender and a new respect for off-ramp traffic.

Sorry to see that and good you weren't harmed. Must have been one helpless feeling. I hope it ends in the best possible way for you. ::003::

Very glad you're ok. Valuable reminder to us all to leave yourself a way out.

So what did you do??? Sit there and take it or try to jump off? I think I'd being trying to duck walk it backwards all the while freaking out screaming like a little girl!

As it played out I wasn't really worried about it at first when he stopped, didn't think I would have to worry about a reverse on the two lane road so wasn't quite thinking 100% about options. When he started coming back I was duck walking for all I was worth but just couldn't go fast enough, I was hoping for a low bumper and a bump and roll backwards.....what I got was a hydraulic loader that captured my front wheel and that was about the point it launched me off the bike backwards (much cursing going on in the helmet).

They get ya coming or going. Been rear ended twice at stop lights.

Glad you are structurally intact & hope you make out to the positive on the settlement.

Nobody's mentioned it so I will. On the replacement bike, install the PIAA slim-line sport horn (Yamy accessory). BIG increase in db over stock buzzer. Glad you are okay.
