Fiddling with my bike today I did this. ( put a rubber cover in front of the cylenders to protect the front of the engine from Dirt ,,,,.

Do you think this will have effect on the cooling of the engine ?.

I have not driven it with this installed but made it run till full temperature inside the garage and at least it didnt MELT away LOL :).

I doubt you'll notice much, if any, change on the temp gauge because the S10 uses a side-mounted radiator and you're not blocking it.... you might even increase airflow through it a bit. But you might cause some localized higher temps in the area you're blocking on the top of the engine. The engine will probably tolerate it pretty well, but you could be setting yourself up some long-term deteoriation issues. For example, the temp of the coil packs might run 20-deg hotter which could cause premature failure 10K down the road. You might also be reducing some general cooling airflow that helps with things like electrics, fuel pump, etc. But short of doing some serious testing, it would be tough to know whether the affect is significant.

If the reason is just that you cosmetically want to keep the engine cleaner, I don't think it is worth the risk, but its your bike and I doubt anything bad will happen immediately.

Ys all good points. Probably best to just go and get it MUDDY once and for all and stop this bullshit LOL :). I tend to get a BIT anal about the look of my bikes when new , but it wears off after a while O:).

It probably will raise the temp of the engine and of the electrical components under the tank, but the unknown is whether it will be enough to do damage. Yes, these are water cooled engines, but the engine internals are not the only things being cooled.

We've had other members make what is essentially a strip which runs vertically behind the tire, attaching to the skid plate at the bottom.

I've considered something similar, more to protect the top of the head and water ingress past the coils

Yes I was actually thinking the same, I took the sparkplugs out today ( just to learn how to do it and see what tools I would need ) , from there I decided to try this rubber thingy :). I just came back home from a little drive and the temp stayed around 77degree´s and I think this will be just fine. And the engine will stay much cleaner.

I actually did same at the rear wheel , just cut a sheet of rubber and its btw the REAR of the REAR wheel and the swingarm. I think the shock and the rear of the engine will also stay much cleaner. Simple and cheep to do.
