Yeah the are a few rules, but not to excessive, and I can see the reason for them. Tenrider, Ive seen the people that can do amazing things on the S10, but unfortunately I haven't got that sort of experience or talent. As for doing it easy on a DR250, not sure if you read Trailzone magazine and seen Clubby and Steve do extensive mods to a couple of 2012 WR450 to do the rally, but I dont think it would be easy. I understand your thinking, if you didn't have to carry anything or worry about range it would be easy. But its 7500km, It would be a strain to carry all the gear and fuel, and would need the same type of motor mods, also be a very uncomfortable ride for the distance. The guys from trailzone suggested a 650 would be the best bike to do the rally on after they did it. Also the organizers of the rally suggest not using a bike that weighs more than 200kgs. Dont get me wrong I would love to do it on the S10, but I'm not sure of the conditions I would come across, hence why I would do it on the 690 first and if I think next time I could take the S10 I would. Be interesting to take the S10, because Im not sure if anyone has ever taken one. Anyway If you are going, it will be great to catch up, and/or team up. I would be doing it in 2014 as I need to start doing some more training on dirt and prepare a few things. If they run the same course I think Mildura would be a great start point out of the 6 starting spots. Also hoping they go out to Big Red again, I want to give that a shot...not sure how a S10 would go getting up that but I think thats a optional part of the rally. Oh and if you are getting inner tubes get the thickest you can.
