If my insurance company wanted to charge me 5K a year to insure my bike I'd be looking for a new insurance company. I have USAA for everything except my bike...(if you've been in the service or a parent was GET USAA...,they are awesome to deal with and cheap) However they don't insure motorcycles...just a policy they have had forever but they have a deal with Progressive I don't pay much for collision and liability on 2 bikes...less than $300 a year for both bikes '12 S10 and an 06 KLR650. I am an old guy who is married and have a clean driving record so that helps a bit....
I agree and highly recommend USAA for cars, home, life, etc...

I used the progressive discount for a long time but when I bought my Tenere they raked me over the coals for it. I've had sportbikes, BMWs, Aprilias, etc but the S10 cost me $900/6 mo. I'm married, 35 yr old with a spotless driving record. I called them to ask why and they said that its a new bike (this was in 2012) and a base hasnt been made for it yet to establish a cost. I explained to them I had been a customer for 10 yrs and would definitely be going some where else if thats the best they could do. They basically said tough titty so I bailed. I pay $500/yr now with Dairyland for the same coverages. Thats a ridiculous price difference.

Just for reference I did a quote on Progressive (still have my XT660R with them because no one else will insure it) and the price went from $900/6 mo to $700/6 mo.
