I stumbled across a skid plate on Ebay that looks pretty heavy duty for $210.00. Found it on Amazon for $189. Got another $30.00 discount for signing up for their Chase Visa credit card. (So $159. with free shipping) It is made in Isreal and appears not to be a "name brand" of sorts. Has "Super Tenere" cutout in leading edge of the plate. Not sure how it mounts yet, and was wondering if anyone here has, or, has seen one in person. Guess I should have asked this BEFORE I pulled the trigger...lol ! Ebay item# for reference--200758651192.

I've seen them. I've replaced two of them with a different product because they broke on customers bikes. Maybe others have had better luck?

yeah, agree w/Jaxon...

Saving a few bucks may seem like a good idea now but not when you end up spending more and getting a better one later.

Well Jaxon didn't say anything about saving a few bucks, he just said he's seen a few break, or do you mean you have seen a few break too? It's water under the bridge anyway, because like I said, I pulled the trigger before I asked how they were. I am more interested in how they mount because I've read the horror stories about the engine mounted ones and was wondering if this one mounted like that. The plate itself seems quite thick, so if it's just the mounts that leave a lot to be desired I may be doing some fabbing of my own. ::019::

Like you said, doesn't really matter, good luck and let us know what you come up with.

If I remember correctly they have one rubber bumper with two male threads on either end.. One screws into the factory location in the oil lump and the other goes though the skid plate with a nut on the bottom... On one of them that whole rubber deal broke of in the case and the other one I replaced was broken the front and the rubber bumper in the rear split in half.. They where both a mess.... I have no affiliation with the product, just the experience with the two that came off customers Super Teneres....

I have the skid plate installed for over a year now.

No hard core off-road, just tarmac, no problem so far.

The material is good.

It is mounted to the oem mouting points on the sump.

Has anyone had a failure where they have replaced the sump cover? If so what was the cost? A 600 skid plate to save 200 worth of parts does not make sense to me. Of course if you are out on a trail far from services then maybe the price of the part seems worth it to you.

I didn't replace mine yet (I bought a new sump cover and o-ring - sitting on the shelf). I had the damaged one welded and machined by a friend adn put it and the original o-ring back on the bike 15K miles ago - no issues.
I think list on the cover is in the $80 range and the o-ring is $10-15. I paid around $50 for both through my local dealer.

I saw this skid plate too. I emailed the ebay seller for pictures of the mounting hardware/brackets and never heard back. That was enough info for me to know they aren't proud of it.

That price is for the cast aluminum cover (silver colored) that bolts to the bottom of the oil pan, correct? Bikebandit lists it for $75.

The bit that breaks with the OEM skid plate (and other that mount to the sump) is the actual oil pan which costs around $200.
