Did 3 riders to Prudhoe Bay in 2005. We made it from Spokane, WA to Prudhoe (Deadhorse) and doubled back to Anchoarge then caught the inland passage ferry to Seattle (Bellingham, actually) and highway
d back to Spokane. 3 KLR 650s, 15 days block to block and we did push hard. The sights were beyond description and we stayed wet a lot (end of June, early July). Only the last 440 miles is gravel/broken ashpalt (Dalton Hwy). All the rest was pretty well paved (there were miles of construction which still was dirt/mud/gravel along the ALCAN too). We rode in ice-fog at 29F and hit 101F on the way back (in Ellensburg, WA). I have a real "Polar Bear" certificate though .. swam in the arctic Ocean at 32F air and 31F water. Yeah, it was chilly
. I would indeed do it again and have actually began the early planning for 2014. Not sure if I could do it this coming summer, but it's hard to resist. From Spokane, it's about 830 miles to "Mile 0" of the ALCAN then about 1,500 more to Fairbanks and 500 more to Deadhorse. (I think). We rode the ferry back from Haines, AK and it took 3 days to get down the inside passage to Bellingham. Add about 1,020 extra miles from Denver. We had no trouble finding fuel, except for the very last leg from Coldfoot to Deadhorse which is a 240 mile stretch
