Hi All

As mentioned in the intro section I own a Triumph Tiger 1050 which is a fantastic bike and doing 3500 kms over a weekend is a brease .My problem is that the newly launched Tiger 800 xc is not really what I want and the big 1200 is about 2 years away.I would like to do some dirt road riding and the current Tiger is not designed for that.

I also need to tell you that I have just recently sold my shares in the biggest Triumph Dealership in South Africa so Triumph is in my blood BUT they do not have a bike right now that suits me.So that leaves me with the following choices

BMW 1200
ktm 990
wait for the Honda 1200 or the 1200 Tiger.
OR THE TENERE.

The value on my current Tiger is dropping and I am not using her much because I am tired of riding to the usual places. The dual bike will open up a new world for me .I grew up with Yamaha, owning a IT 175 IT 450 and DT 125 in the past.I have heard that the ST is down on power and is quite heavy and people are saying that I will regret selling my Tiger. There is also the isue of an extra R 70000 needing to be paid in.
advice is needed
thanks

I’m surprised that you would consider the KTM 990 but not the Tiger 800 XC. They seem very similar to me. Both more off road than the XT 1200 . I haven't ridden the XT 1200 yet so I can't comment on it except I have one coming some day [soon I hope]

The Tenere is available right now in South Africa, can you grab a long test ride from a dealer? It's the only way you're going to eventually reach a conclusion.

I do mostly long distance touring and I feel that both the 990 KTM and Tiger 800 will not be as comfortable .I am 6 ft 3 amd 100 kilos so I feel like I am on a 125 when riding the 800xc.
I had ordered the XC but have cancelled the order now

You need to have chat with Too Tall ... he'll tell you the pro's n con's of the Super Tenere with regard to your stature.

I expected more from the Tiger with all the hype. Glad I changed my mind and went with the S10.

Harty,
Have you considered adding a second bike rather than replacing the Tiger? You could add a middleweight or lightweight thumper for offroad riding and keep your Tiger for longer tarmac and gravel road riding. It would open up new adventures to places you'll never get the Super Tenere much less your current Tiger. That may not work for you if you want to tour a very long distance from home and then do offroad riding at your destination, but even a good lightweight dual sport will let you ride a few hours from home and then hit more challenging trails than any heavyweight dual sport will ever let you do. I don't know the terrain and distances you travel or how licensing and insurance, in hour country, would impact the decision to own multiple bikes, but thought I'd throw that out there.

Hi Chadx

I have given that some thought and it is a fantastic idea cause I could buy a smaller bike and still keep the costs the same but I will mostly be touring (1000 kms over weekend ) with a mix of roads so I think I would battle on a smaller bike .I do like touring on my Tiger and will miss her
