ABS Light is On: Need Help.

I noticed that my ABS light is on. So I did the first things first: took both wheels off and cleaned the sensors. I also changed the fuse but every time I go over a rough patch on a road the ABS light comes on again.

I have temporarily solved the problem by turning the key off and on to remove the light, but on a rough patch the light comes on again.

What do you think is the problem. Do I need a new part? Your help will be much appreciated. ;D

Other than the error light, do you notice anything foul with braking behavior?

Brakes are functioning normally: I cannot test for the linked system but individually they seem to function normally.

But without ABS intervention, right?

You can lock them up old school?

Check battery connection. A reported case indicates a loose Negative causes the ABS to throw a fault. Check connectors to these ABS sensors if the battery connections are good.

I've had similar issues on customer bikes. It ended up with "stuff" on the magnetic ring attached to the hubs. After cleaning, it was fixed.

I have tried locking the wheels. It seems to me that I cannot lock the wheels. On this basis, it seems to me that the ABS is working. So what explains the light might be what all of you have suggested in the latter part of the thread.

I will look and report back what is possible. It might be the case that the codes need to be deleted. Anyone who has done this before?

Check each tail light bulb for both running light and brake light function.

Most issues have been covered, although you don't mention the age/mileage of your bike, or whether codes are showing. Here is just a few random thoughts: -

Are wheel bearings OK?
Tyres - has anything been changed. Have the ABS wires been pulled/pinched? Tyre cicumferences still original? TCS behaving?
Does the ABS actually work? - pulsing feeling when system is stopping lock-up. Usually doesn't function when the light is on.
ABS sensors can fail as resistance builds up. Was there any visble damage to the sensor faces when you checked?
In addition to checking the battery terminals, it's a good idea to look at all the neg/earth connections around the bike. Run a fresh neg lead from the battery if you have any doubts, just as a test

If all else fails it sounds like a trip to the dealer or a Multi Meter/GS911 job.

Good luck finding the gremlin ................ KEN

So I decided that I would check the bike to find the fault on a weekend. It turns out that the problem suddenly stopped. It is a week now since the light came on again. My bike is 145,000km. I am aware that things will begin to age and probably to malfunction. Where there is need I replace with new components.

I am grateful to all you amazing people. It is always great doing business with you. ::015::
