Today was a day I have been dreading for 6 years almost to the day. My dad was diagnosed with Melanoma skin cancer six years ago. They had given him about six months to live back then based on its progression at the time.
He defied those odds and beat it for six long and happy years until today. I am happy that he did not have to suffer and he was happy and ready to go.

I went out on a ride this afternoon to clear my head and think about a few things. I ended up sitting at a desert overlook that I know of and just talked to him and myself for about three hours. It felt good.

I love you Dad.

Sounds as if you were very close to your Dad. Be assured that he will be watching you and how you live your life. Let him be your guide when times are tough.

I was closest with my paternal grandfather, he passed almost 50 years ago and we still talk regularly. When I wonder how to handle things, he tells me. He also gives me hell when I screw up.

You'll be in my prayers and thoughts.

Devin..really sorry to hear this.
My father passed away in 1983...prolly not a day goes by
Without a smile that he gave me or a laugh at something he always said.
Cherish all the memories and make some of your own.
Keep stoking the fire of love you have for him, and never let
That become in past tense.
The pain of the loss with subside, and all good things remembered will be forefront.
God speed my friend, and know that you and your family's pain and.loss
Will be In my prayer intentions at daily Mass.

My condolences, Devin. I lost my dad 4 years ago. It sounds like you were close, and probably have many wonderful memories of him. Those are a comfort and a blessing.

You are in my thoughts.

Devin,
Sincere condolences from Nancy and myself on your loss. The real comfort is knowing that he is in a better place. I've lost both my parents and a couple years ago I lost my brother to pancreatic cancer at the young age of 71. It can be a very sad experience.

God Bless.

Rod

Thank you to all of my forum friends.

I am very close to my Dad. We were very good friends and he was a great role model. This is the hardest thing I have ever had to go through.
It is nice to have friends that you have never even met, but share a common passion for something, reach out to offer help in a tough time.
I really appreciate it and hope to be able to meet as many of you as possible at some point.
Even if we never meet, it is nice to know all of you here in this great community.
