A number of us in eastern half of the lower 48 have talked of the Smokies and taking our new honey on her maiden voyage around that neck of the woods....as some of us are still gainfully employed (or not so gainfully as the case may be) and unable to take the time to head off to the Yukon...I was thinking we might want to stage our own celebration of the ST (sorry, 1st NA ST Gathering was already taken).

We may not make Whitehorse, but we could make Bryson City, or Robbinsville?

Anyone up for meeting up at the end of the Cherohala Skyway? Say, 3rd weekend in September?

This would be loosely organized, as I'm pretty darn disorganized. But, as you all already know, the riding would be great.

I would be up for it. Don't know if I will be able to get away though....

This is how the STOC events started out. Small local gatherings that. Have in some cases become well attended events. It will be fun to see how the S10 family evolves over time.

That's kinda what I was hoping for by having it in the 'semi-center' of the US... More people could attend... I'm hoping that more than 5 people can show up for the Yukon ride.. I want to meet and hang out with the ST gang.... I'm doing the Prudhoe bay, im just tying in the meet.......

well... I am still gainfully employed ::) and we can bill Whitehorse as the First International SupaT convergance. And Tabasco if half the bikes that have been showing interest show up we should see double digits. heck there are 5 SupaT's in Whitehorse ???. Anyway I think any gathering is a good idea and if I had not burned all my holiday time I would be showing up. 8)

I've always wanted to ride the Dragon, but I've used all my vacation for this year. I don't see how I'll be able to get 5 weeks off next year for the Yukon trip, so this will be a great 2 week trip for 2012. Let me know when you have more details. I think this would be an even better late April to mid May trip.

Well, I was thinking 2011....and, late April is a fine time....though Sept does have the start to some color.

There is no reason it couldn't be 2011 for the inaugural, then each year on the anniversary...I never tire of riding the Smokies and always find new roads, including many without cars...this year, I could only afford a day...next year, maybe more...though it will be 7 years before I can take the time away to get up Whitehorse and AK.

You might pull off Alaska in four weeks but that's kinda pushing it... The other way you might think about it if you really want to go is this.... Ship your bike to Oregon and fly up to the border... Then do the trip over 5-6-7 days... then bring your bike back to the shipper and fly home... in a week or so you will get your bike back at your house or business........ You could prolly ship your bike for a few hundred...

That’s a ride that’s not too far from here in Flatistan. Glad to make the run up in September if you pull it together. I own my business so it’s never a problem getting away and, for some reason, everyone around here seems real happy when I go on motorcycle trips.

If I’m reading this correctly and you’re also considering pushing to April 2012, I just organized a group trip to western NC this last spring and we landed in mid May ‘cuz the riders coming from the northern states were worried that they could still have snow, cold and other bad weather in April, early May for their ride down to NC.

I'm trying to keep an even keel here and not get overly excited about the Super T coming soon, now with all this trip planning going on, not easy.

I have looked over and over at panniers, still do not like anything and they all are too expensive, but with a trip to Alaska something will be needed besides my big wolfman. LOL

Camping in rain everyday (Alaska trip) seems like a dream, has not rained around these parts for a while, and like Oklahoma, we are close to busting into flames.

So true!!! Last night I met with some friends about our proposed AK trip in 2012 and that makes it even worse.

While I'll be tied down to help a family member get past a hip replacement, the FJR Eastern Owners Meet (EOM) is basing out of Cumberland Falls, KY from 22-25 September 2011. A group is planning to split off to the Dragon, too.
For more info: http://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?s=cbf95d5eddae8356c86c34ab0d349495&showforum=82
I'll be at the EOM as well. Might could make down there in conjunction with a trip to the Dragon Friday or Saturday. I may ride my Super Ten to the EOM.

Also planning on doing a Dustybutt 1000 attempt in Goodland, KS the week of Sept 16, 2011 on the Super Ten.

How about the 2nd weekend of September, I've got that week off. This a great area to ride, both off and on road. Anyhow if y'all firm up the dates I might be able to get the 3rd week of Sept. off as vacation.

As posted above, 3rd week in Sept is EOM for FJRs at Cumberland Falls, KY is already planned. Everyone's welcome and it's just up the road; adventure riding in the SE KY / SW VA would make running Rt 129 on a weekend pale in comparison..

Speaking personally...the Dragon is WAY overcrowded and overrated...Tons of mo better roads in the Robbinsville area.

I did the dragon once...just to say I did....as I exited an ambulance was on the way up, with lights and siren.

However, the Cherontahala is 20 mins away and is one of the greatest MC roads anywhere: Lots of lazy curves on top of the clouds.

When you are right; man you are really right! And when 'carrying the mail', some of the curves are not so lazy!!
