This might be old news, but web BikeWorld is reporting the 2013 GS1200 will have a factory cruise control option. Even show a picture of it. First Triumph, then BMW. Yamaha, your up. . . ::017::

And they flipped the final drive to the other side. That right there is worth $700!
Of course, I have no doubt they will deny any and all defect or failure of any part of the bike as being poor engineering. That, I think, adds another $425.

For $22 Grand, this should also come with at least 2 yr free global tours and chase vehicle loaded with necessary replacement parts and a bucket of antifreeze for good measure.

That's more or less what I paid for my S10 with all the accessories.
the list must have been long.
I think I have about $15500 all in on mine.

not to ::002:: here, but the bmw loyalists will come out shortly (bike shows, starbucks ::014::, and on the side of the road ::015::)
and start saying this and that how superior the bike is blah blah blah..
Seriously, just because they have been doing this since the middle ages, it does not allow the following:
-a seriously over inflated price, since for donkey's years they were the only ones with a large DP bike
-reliability being a word unknown to bmw owners. they had 30 odd years to get the design right, wonder how quickly the rear end will grenade
-high cost of maintenance (boxers have a cross over cable that needs to be set properly for the tb to be synced, and other idiotic set ups
, and limited dealer networks

say what they will, the ST is not perfect, but it's damn near there. I'll keep my $10 grand in my pocket, the yammie is a keeper
BMW bash over.

Yup. 8 BMWs here.....the last two were lemon law buy backs! (F800GS and K1300GT). Both buy backs done within one year.

I started to buy one before I saw that Yamaha was bringing the S10 to the good ol' US of A..... So I waited and waited and waited. The wait was definately worth it.. ::022::

I really like the GS. First bike I rented when I got back into biking. But ... it IS a BMW. ::007::
Always been a Yamaha fan so the ST was a no brainer. ::022::
Is the GS older than the Tenere? An argument could be made that the ST isn't an all new bike, but retains technology and experience from years of off-road development, like this plaque does at the IMS:

If buying new I could have got a GS for about the same cost as they were throwing in panniers on the last of the old models.

In the UK the Yamaha is around £1200 more than the old GS, but by the time I had added luggage and heated grips to a brand new Tenere I could have had the GS - and I already had a load of extra's I could swap over (Including £1200 of suspension)

I even prefered the GS to the Tenere for handling and engine characteristics, and there are loads of BMW dealers over here, and my local one is the closest main dealer to me, just 10 minutes up the road instead of 30 minutes for the Yamaha.

But I had enough problems with my 2008 GS, in the fith model year you would have thought it should have been a sorted bike, but alas it was still a bit of a dog, and there were still reports of 2011 models having the same old Final Drive and FPC issues that had haunted the bike for the previous eight years.

I could easily live with the expensive servicing, but not the constant worry of if the bike would ruin my precious holiday by breaking down, and the high cost of repairs once the warranty has expired - I extended mine at the cost of £300 - just to have two more problems within three months, both cost just under £100 (the excess was £100) so I had forked out £500 on warranty and repairs in 3 months - Fuck You Very Much Mr BMW - Hello Mr Yamaha.

This new bike will undoubtedly sell very well, and the poor fools who buy them will believe they have bought a superior product, as opposed to paying to be a beta tester for BMW.

IMO the Yamaha has some faults, whereas BMW's develop them ::007::

I got mine in Canada, $17,800 out the door, tax, PDI and Yamaha heated grips included, maybe 20-21,000 with all the accessories.

My friend paid 27-28,000 for his 2012 GSA.

Good luck with the new BMW.

I can;t wait for all the gloating about the new sales figures as the owners of the 1 year old models quickly ditch them to avoid embarrassing resale stories.

I suppose the price where I live will still be 40% more than it should be.

Will see I suppose. I will give it 3 years of proven YAMAHONDAKAWASUKIUMPH reliability before I bother with a test ride. Hope they don't change models in that time or I'll have to hit the reset again. :D

my total cost is accurate, and that includes a boat load of extas: givi crash bars and removable racks, sargent seat (single) two bro's exhaust, windhshield, adj. windshield bracket, aftermarket skid plate (forgot brand, out seattle ???) bunch of other odds and ends.
I did buy in the states, and imported into Canada though for a great price.

the guy at blackfoot was quoting me 22 large for a regular gs with abs only, thanks, no thanks.
