    ABS ECU Faults

Finally after being delayed by a visit to the Yukon I arrived home to the Caribbean and my rear wheel sensor and starter relay had arrived. After installing both I took the bike off the table and rode it around the yard where upon the speedometer immediately came back and the check engine light...

    ABS ECU Faults

Well the confusion was that fault 16 stated that it was a short circuit. When I turned the page of the manual I discovered the answer......... I checked the loom between the rear wheel sensor connector and the ABS ECU and it all metered out OK checking continuity and no short or ground faults. I...

    ABS ECU Faults

After tracing out the abs motor circuit I discovered that whilst the fuse is good the connection between the hot terminal of the started solenoid module, which also routes the 30 amp hydraulic ABS motor fuse is bad. This is buried within the solenoid body. I made up a temporary bypass fused...

    ABS ECU Faults

I had an ABS problem back in 2016 on my 2012 XT1200 when I kept getting fault 63, the front brake master cylinder pressure sensor come up. I tried everything and did get it to reset once which lasted about 30 miles. One odd thing was if I left the bike standing for a week or more the ABS light...

    ABS Fault

I would be happy to take it to a dealer but that would cost far more than replacing the hydraulic unit ($1200 Yamaha Sports Plaza) as the nearest dealer would be 575 miles away across the ocean to Miami, customs registration in and out creating and shipping, ouch!

    ABS Fault

:-[ Well the reset lasted 30 miles. In between the reset and the failure I flushed the brakes, I found very little discoloration in the fluid. The back brake pedal rides a little higher but that aside nothing different in the feel or performance of the brakes. Now there is no ABS again. I have...

    Top steering head nut

When I said I torqued it down I failed to mention that I released the clamp on the yoke, I just followed the Yamaha shop manual. If the lock washer is in place and the top nut torqued to 94 ft lb I cannot see that it should loosen. As I say I put mine down to the bearings not seating properly at...

    New Owner- a few questions...

I have both the FJR and the Tenere. I had the same problem with the pannier locks on my FJR. When one fell apart I had a hell of a job getting it open to fix it. I noticed that you needed the loc tite as you cannot tighten the screws home too far as it interfered with the lock. I made the...

    Brake Bleed

I figured that there would probably be some unflushed fluid in the motor and valves. When I initiate the motor test sequence (shop manual 4.71) it runs the motor for a total of about 10 seconds, front brake, back brake, front brake, idle, off. I guess this should move the old stuff out of the...

    Top steering head nut

My bike does a fair bit of off road on rough rocky roads. My head developed slack but I think it was down to the bearings not seating properly at the factory. I obtained the wrench ( a laser cut copy off eBay) and torqued it down it it has been fine ever since. With the locknut torqued it has...

    Brake Bleed

I am going to bleed the brakes this week and follow the shop manual sequence front R, front L, rear. This is just a flush not a bleed as such. If I purge until I obtain clean fluid at each wheel cylinder will this have fully flushed the ABS motor or do I need to run the ABS motor tests and...

    ABS Fault

;DYes I do ride off road, rough limestone tracks. I cleaned both battery terminals and leads, checked and cleaned the sensors, inspected the sensor leads, checked the wear indicators on the pads and the fluid levels, all fine. I tried a jump pack through a direct engine ground. The first...

    ABS Fault

First my apologies for disappearing without a trace. I had to get on a plane to the UK as my father was dying, which was expected. Anyway I have now returned to the islands and have checked the site to see that a number of people have responded with helpful suggestions. I had removed the POS...

    ABS Fault

I have a 2012 US model which has been great up until now when the ABS light came on steady while cruising down a smooth road at about 50 mph. Anyway I obtained the Yamaha original ABS test lead and hooked it up as per the manual. The fault codes read as 25 - 51 - 63. 25 = front wheel sensor is...

Rear brake light flasher with additional light unit

Thanks I found it, I have a penchant for missing the obvious, something to do with age I guess!
