    HARD START

Re: Very hard starting today Dunno if anyone has mentioned this in these 39 pages yet... Instead of taking out the #4 fuse it's easier to use a mechanical copy of your ignition key. Any locksmith can make one without transponder. It's useful anyway if you've got the cranky OEM cases. With such...

Moving to Stuttgart, Germany and have a few questions!

Hey SFC E, selling the dirt bikes seems like a good idea to me. Non-street-legal dirtbikes are almost useless here unless you own a farm or are a regular at a motocross track (which are rather rare). It is actually "verboten" to leave official roads, which are paved 99,9%. Anyway you're moving...

    anakee 2's

Okay, then all the Anakee tests I've ever read were wrong and three of my friends who know and like the Anakees' performance in the wet are wrong. I'm lucky that I didn't have to ride them in the wet myself yet. Oh, and since the Tiger 955 is exactly the same bike as the S10, then my own...

    anakee 2's

Funny (and a little bit boring :-X) how every tire thread gets taken over by fans of the K60, which - I get it - is long-lasting and economic, looks dangerously serious and does very well in light offroad conditions. Ironically in Germany, where it comes from, it is VERBOTEN to leave paved...

Would you buy a demo S10?

Hi there, I bought my S10 as a demo and rental bike with 16 000 km / 10 000 miles (!) on it. Mind you, I'm in Germany with no-speed-limit Autobahn, and what that means for the "break-in" of a rental bike. Now I've got 60 000 km / 37 500 miles on it. No problems whatsoever and no need to refill...

Hey Tim! Yupp, I filmed it using a chest mount harness. In other news: Happy Oktoberfest!

Video: Eight Super Teneres in Bavaria

Hey folks! Long time no see. I've been quite busy setting up a new german XT1200Z forum. Yesterday we had a first ride together with eight Super Teneres in the Bavarian forest near Czech Republic. It was really fun to meet the guys and ride together. So here's a little video: XT1200Z-Forum.de

    Testing the Yamaha crash bars...

The road was dry and clean, but the tarmac was heavily smoothed. Just before that trip I switched from Conti TrailAttack back to Metzeler EXP C (but the Metzelers were not fresh, I had used them for 1200 miles before putting on the Contis because of a big trip). The tires are very different when...

    Testing the Yamaha crash bars...

TC-1 as always. So far it had never failed me :-[.

    Testing the Yamaha crash bars...

Well, a little too fast to begin with - and sure enough the tire lost grip when I was accelerating. Even the traction control (which normallly works perfectly with little slides) couldn't help it because the tire instantly started sliding sideways. The tarmac was dry and clean, but very smooth.

    Testing the Yamaha crash bars...

Hey! On Saturday, I was unfortunate enough to test the Yamaha crash bars of my XT1200Z - while filming. In a bend in the Alps my rear wheel slipped and I fell at ~25 mph. Luckily nothing happened to me, the bike proved to be very robust - everything's fine except a few minor scratches. Ride...

Heat from left side of bike

Jeez, keep your knees against the tank and move at appropriate speed, so the hot air will evade your knee. I did a couple of hundreds of miles in Southern Spain in July at up to 40°C / 104 F, no problems whatsoever. Anyway the GS will boil both of your shins with radiating heat from the...

ABS test with an S10 in German...

Here the ADAC (which is the German AAA) is testing different ABS systems. They show that European bikes, especially Italian, tend to have a very sharp ABS, which only avoids the blocking of the wheels, but not the lift-off of the rear wheel. That causes instability, especially on uneven or dirty...

    Power output and throttling

Hey! In the German Tenere forum there is a huge discussion about power issues with the XT1200Z. Officially it's got 110 horsepower. Now there are two points: 1) In the lower gears the power is electronically limited: 1st - 78 hp, 2nd - 90 hp, 3rd - 98 hp. That's what, according to some...
