It might even have handled more nimbly? The main downside running skinny tires I can think of (as long as you use a higher aspect ratio to keep overall diameter correct) might be reduced load capacity. The last set of tires (Mitas E07-Dakar) before my current set, I ran that size front tire and a 140/80-17 rear.
Ran them until they were worn out, and a couple long-distance touring trips. Never noticed any ill-effects from running the narrower tires. They worked well.
When I bought them (was during covid when the OE sizes were hard to find in stock) I checked the load ratings. Were the same as the OE sizes. It might even have handled more nimbly? I got my dyno stuff back finally.Got my bike back from the shop last night, but it was raining so no chance to really crack it open post-dyno. I'm still waiting on the graphs/summary of changes to be emailed to me. They do good work but they're not exactly responsive.
Butt dyno says the power delivery is a lot smoother. It pulls hard in every gear but first is still slightly anemic, as it should be. But I can pop first, second, and third, and be up to 80 before I know it, so the power bands are definitely much better aligned. Two times I felt the bottom slide slightly before grabbing traction again, could have been riding in the wet, could have been the extra pull, I'll figure it out later.
Throttle is way less snatchy though, so, big ups there for the dyno guys I went to.
You brought back a old memory for me! I used to have a Yamaha DT 175 I rode everywhere. I got a soft gun case for Christmas one year and wound up putting my shotgun in that case. I would put a loop that was at the barrel end of the case around my foot peg and the handle hung perfectly over my rear turn signal. I tied it to the frame at that point. Jump on the bike and off squirrel hunting, grouse or rabbit. Worked very well for years that way! After running soft bags for so long, I had to refit my hard bumot panniers today for a range trip tomorrow. I got to thinking about it and since I run the soft bags almost all of the time, and really only run the hard panniers when I have loads to carry or need relatively secure aluminum boxes that can 'lock' - maybe my "how do you carry a rifle during hunting season" question is going to be easy to solve.
So I picked up a Kolpin case and the associated mount for it, and physically put it against the rear of my right hard pannier. Fits with room to spare. I took a picture and thought "I could live with that mount living there forever". So once I get back from the range tomorrow, I'm going to start working on fabbing them together. I even did some rough math and considered that I should probably mount it on the right hard pannier given weight distribution being most likely that I'd tip the bike left since I'm less confident on that side than I am on the right, off-concrete.
For anyone else's curiosity, I like to hunt and fish from the bike from time to time, and squirrel is pretty good with a suppressed 10/22 in early and mid-season. And since I ride through Ohio winters... I figure why not.
Apparently those are some aftermarket boxes, not Tenere boxes ?Mounted the Tenere boxes on the Tiger racks. Both are on channel so easy to pop off and on, secured with only 2 screws.
They are all welded aluminum, brick outhouse tough, made by a guy who got laid off, and was cranking them out from his garage in 2012. The bike has tipped over on both sides and you'd never know, unlike the factory plastic and tinfoil boxes.Apparently those are some aftermarket boxes, not Tenere boxes ?
I'm assuming that the only boxes that can't transfer are the "crappy lock" OEs. 'Cuz the Raid Edition "OE" boxes are actually aftermarkets. And that the only difference is the mounting hardware for the specific bike(s). Which if you're a person that doesn't tend to keep a bike, this is the way to go.Apparently those are some aftermarket boxes, not Tenere boxes ?
Ah well, I'm still seeking a different path. I went out and put the actual gun boot in place to figure out placement of it vs just the mount, and bike on center stand, the case is half an inch from the floor. I was just going to edit my post, but the edit settings are aggressive here. Anyway, not going to work. Ah well.Ah well, I'm still seeking a different path.
