Is the GS1250 the reason?

I have a bike with the TFT display, it is nice, although not as much stuff to display as the BMW does, but once you set the info you are interested in, you don't change it, and it is the same as what you have on display on the S10. Sure the newer bikes have Android Auto, and can display Google maps, but I much rather have a good stand alone GPS, and most of the TFT displays are horrible on displaying maps.

The quick shift is nice. I really like it, and it is great to use on both on and off road, but it isn't something I need, and I find myself manually shifting because I still like to, although the quick shift in the curves is fun. The multiple different "modes" of on and off road is also nice, but again, I find myself just using two different ones most of the time.

Whichever one puts a smile on your face is the one that should be in your garage. That new Tiger 1200, which is a lot lighter than the S10, with the "T-plane" engine is getting my attention. I just wish Yamaha would come out with something similar to replace/update the S10.

I had a BMW prior to my current S10. A 2004 air cooled GS 1200. I loved the bike. I made many km with it, took me to Russia... good memories.
Mechanical issues? Yes, I broke the cardan and the clutch at around 120.000 km.
Different way of riding? Yes, the BMW has the telelever and paralever, it basically makes you feel you are sailing a boat. With the Yamaha, I had to remember how to use the rear brake when entering into a bend, for example.
A very good bike in my opinion and also different to the current GS. Why did I change? Because I hate the BMW garage service. It is very expensive, both parts and service hours. And over all of it, I got sick of being bad treated. BAD TREATED. I may not be a millionaire but I pay my bills and treat everyone I come across with due respect. The BMW staff treat you like shit. So goodbye and will never come back.

You mean the telelever that was recalled by BMW in 2017? Yes certainly it might create some riding comfort but the issue they recalled them for sounds scary to me...

I wanted a Beemer, until I rode one. Did not care for the boxer as I just could not get my feet and legs comfortable, very interesting bike and I totally get the appeal but after a long ride I just did not want it. I strongly suggest going to Eagle Rider or something like that and see if you can rent one for a couple of days.

Eagle Rider is a good way to test bikes. I rented a 1200 GS back in 2017 or 2018 for a 24 hour period. I liked it while riding for about 12 of those 24 hours. I found on balance that I missed the S10, though the GS seat was so much better than the stock S10 seat, I might have been convinced the GS was worth it, if not for aftermarket seat options.

But renting from Eagle Rider is a good way to really test things out and get an extended "test" ride.

What have you missed in the S10?
There are also plenty of aftermarket seat options for the S10..anything in particular you wanted?

Do you remember why you did not want it? Was it the riding position?
I will definitely look for a rental to try it...

Just the feel. The S10 felt overall more comfortable. Could have been familiarity. I mean, the GS was quite nice, but I found myself wishing I was doing the ride on the S10 (long weekend after a work conference in New Orleans). I'd put effort into the S10 ergos and the GS just didn't feel quite like home. Again, nothing wrong with it and it was a fine motorbike. I'm not too fussed about brands and really have nothing against the GS. My main point was to recommend Eagle Rider to test a bike for an extended period. I'm just happy with my S10. Might try the GS again at some point. My project bike is a '87 K75S BMW and I'm a member of the BMWMOA. I drive a 328d and like it, so I'm not a BMW basher by any stretch (though I've lost interest in my local bimmer dealer, which seems like common refrain).

It was just a bunch of things that all added up. Because of the boxer engine I had a hard time getting my feet and legs comfortable, I did not like the seat at all but I am sure that could be fixed. It felt shaky and buzzy at touring speeds and sort of wide where the thighs were. I looked into repairs and felt that it did not have the reliability I was looking for and talked to a motorcycle tow truck driver who said he picked more Harleys but Beemers were second.
Just was not the right bike for me at that time.

Yeah I see. Glad to see opinions from people who are not following the "wave" and do take time to form their own opinion despite the hype.
My trusted mechanic told me if you buy a Beemer I will see you frequently...but if you get the 10S I will miss you....he showed me some GSs he was working on to tell me the kind of issues I would face such as (i) gas connectors to the tanks for a GSA...they were made out of plastic and they tend to break...cost of replacement: you have to buy the whole set up that does down into the thank for almost 240 USD excluding labor cost...the number of rubbers that need to be changed but the issue was not the rubbers but more of how much it takes to get to them...same for the clutch and the driveshaft....it is scary indeed....when I told him that I can get one under warranty and sell it before the end of the warranty he told me to check the dealers regular maintenance prices...
But again the issues was not the price per se but more of why would they charge this much...for social status?...
Anyhow....

In BMW, you will be called for reviews often, perhaps once or twice a year. I did not feel fear for this, all the contrary, I thought that they were working on the bike and my safety. If there is something wrong with the telelever, it's good to repare it and it is free of charge. It's also a bit tricky because you must go to the garage and they will find something to change and charge for it.
Yes it is comfortable but there is always a but, you have less sensations. With the Yamaha, I feel the bike, if it does something strange I can think ops what did I do wrong? what happened? With the BMW, I think that the sensation is the crash itself.

I was on my third input shaft, and fourth clutch. Every time the shaft would fail, it took out the clutch. If the clutch is not re-installed perfectly, it takes itself out. They actually have/had a two-year warranty on clutch repairs because of that, and one of my clutches was not installed perfectly. I've heard that this was only an issue with their dry clutches. I can only imagine what the supply chain issues has done to parts procurement.

I don't think anybody is saying that every Beemer is junk. And I'll even concede that there's more "good" Beemers than "bad". But the problem is . . . . you can't tell the good from bad . . . . until it's too late. And I'm a once bitten, twice shy kinda guy. Yamaha has never bitten me.
