Zumo XT Question

I have a Zumo XT. I had some screenshots stored in the Zumo XT screenshot folder. I connected the Zumo XT to my HP Laptop running Windows 11 so I could access the screenshot folder. I can see the folder, and the icons for the screenshots; however, when I try to open the photos, I get this message on the laptop:

If that image is too small to read, the message says "Sorry, Photos can't open this file because the format is currently unsupported, or the file is corrupted."

I can't open any of the photos in the screenshot folder. I can't delete them, either; when I try, I get this message on the laptop:

If that message is too small to read, it says "1347 could not be deleted. The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected".

I've tried this on two different computers, one running Windows 11 and the other Windows 10, with the same result. I've rebooted both computers, reset the Zumo to factory settings, changed USB cables, and made sure through Garmin Express that the Zumo had the latest software version. I know this feature worked when I first got the Zumo, and I also know that the Zumo has had a couple software updates since I got it. Has anyone else had an issue with accessing the screenhot folder?

In general I've been pretty happy with the Zumo, and this is not really a vital function, but when one thing isn't working it makes me suspect that something else might not be working. Any suggestions as to what might be causing this issue?

Try to open it with another program. Windows Photo Viewer is the default. Also make sure Windows Photo Viewer has the latest update and try again.

I don't think it's a windows issue. I can open other .png and .jpeg files stored on my computer. The photos in the screenshot folder on the Zumo are .png files.

Edit: I take that back. I just dug out an old laptop I have that's running Windows 7, and the photos from the screenshot folder open with no problem.

The problem with Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 11 is that apparently it's hidden now, and can't be chosen any more from the "open with" menu. There's some complicated method to reinstall registry files that I found on line, but I'm putting that in the "last resort" category,

Can't. I've tried to drag the files from the screenshot folder to the desktop before opening them; the "copying files" window opens, but there's no progress and it just hangs up until I finally close the copying files operation. They are only PNG files of a couple hundred KB; they should transfer almost instantaneously.

I'm actually communicating with Garmin via email trying to resolve it. At their direction, I'm shortly about to embark on a Zumo system backup and a master reset to see if that does anything.

Problem fixed. It was as simple as backing up the data on the Zumo, doing a master reset, and then reloading the backed up data. Garmin customer service was actually a big help; quickly responsive, and didn't leave me hanging for days.

Still love the Zumo.

Just out of interest. If the files were in the internal memory of the XT could you copy them to the SD card in it then take that out and put it direct to the computer.

No. The files that were contained in the screenshot folder on the Zumo internal memory couldn't be manipulated at all. I couldn't remove them from the folder (as in dragging and dropping them), I couldn't rename them, or even copy them. I tried dragging individual PNG files to both the Zumo SD card and my desktop, but the files couldn't be moved. I even tried dragging and dropping the entire screenshot folder from the Zumo internal memory over to both the SD card memory and my laptop, but none of it was possible. It was like the files were frozen in amber.

Fortunately the master reset worked.

On the main screen. click on the "Settings" icon:

That will take you to the settings menu. Scroll down until you see "Display":

Press "Display" and it'll take you to the Display menu. Scroll down until you see "Screenshot", and then press the box so the blue checkmark appears:

That will activate the screenshot, and it will put a little blue camera icon at the upper right corner of the screen. If you push that camera icon, it will take a photo of whatever is on the screen and store it in the Screenshot folder in the Zumo internal memory. If you plug the Zumo into your computer, you can drag and drop the screenshots from the screenshot folder onto your desktop. That's how I took this photo, of the day I hit 100,000 miles:
