.... in the state where you live.

Not much to offer here in Florida, except maybe the Overseas Highway that connects the mainland of Florida with Key West. About 129 miles, of island hoping through the Caribbean. Crowded, especially during snow bird season, and very expensive.... it's a tourist destination but it is a beautiful ride. If you're on the highway at sunset or sun it's special, very special! ::012::

I try like to stop at Alabama Jack's on the way down. http://www.floridabeachbar.com/bars/alabamajacks.asp

It's a good place for lunch and to become infected with the "keys diseases". When you're infected you leave all worries and stresses behind and life slows down..... a lot. All the "conchs"(locals) are terminally infected and it's best that tourist share the disease or they won't enjoy the keys. ::024::

A bit of Key West lore: http://www.conchtourtrain.com/conch.html

I'm sure you guys can do better. Let's hear it!

Re: Your favorite ride ......

My favorite ride isn't to a specific destination. My favorite ride is the one where I leave the house in the morning with no destination in mind, riding wherever the front wheel takes me, and return in the evening 200 - 400 miles later, completely relaxed and refreshed.

I gotta agree with ya. ::008::

My intent was not to get into the head of the folks here or to discuss the zen of motorcycling. :))
It was intended to give us a chance to share our favorite LOCAL ROAD with other inmate. Heck, some may want to come and check them out.

The title of the thread has been changed with the hope that inmates will share their favorite LOCAL ROAD. Sorry for the confusion...

That's a tough call. We have so many great local roads here in San Diego county.
You can mix and match according to your mood and how much time you have.
From skirting the border on Hwy 94, to blazing up S2 in the Anza-Borrego Desert, or enjoying the pine forests on Sunrise Highway in the south
Then we have the De Luz , Rice Canyon, and Couser Canyon in the north. There are more of course, these are just highlights.

But if I want to get out for a quick sanity check, my go to roads are Palomar South Grade (or Nate Harrision - dirt), Palomar East Grade, and Mesa Grande, followed by a stop in Santa Ysabel for some Julian apple pie!
In fact, my wife and I rode to Julian yesterday for brunch and -----------pie!

Tubebender, you live in motorcycle mecca, no doubt about it.
I've seen a bit of Ca. but yearn to see more.
"Sample Julian apple pie" has been added to my bucket list.....

Certainly not I40! :D

That's a tough question, I have been on some stunning roads and ones you wouldn't think wouldn't amount to much that turned out keepers.
So many of them out here in New Mexico alone. ::26::

If we are staying IN-state, folks think of Maryland as Baltimore and DC. Actually, the State itself has a bit of everything.
Florida-like Atlantic coast
Southern plantations on the eastern shore.
Bayous on the Chesapeake Bay
Historic Civil War battlefields
And Appalachian West-Virginia-like mountains in the west.

So it depends on my mood. My favorite is simply following the C&O Canal along the north shore of the Potomac River after working in DC to one of the little sandwich dives near Brunswick or Shepherdstown, crossing east through the Frederick watershed, and then home.

From SW PA (Pittsburgh area) decent rides are relatively close by. ::013::
PA route 30 or 31 through the Laurel Highlands
Real close to home (and my go-to quickie) is PA 48 and 711 then looping back through some rural state roads
Maryland and West Virginia are close, looking forward to doing route 250 through in WV and 50 through the western part of Maryland and WV next year.......
In short too many to list.....

As right now talking of great rides is a little depressing as I've got a bad case of PMS (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome) :'(

Late in the day with the sun behind me, heading east on CA Hwy 36 from Mad River to Hwy 3, through Hayfork, right on CA Hwy 299 to Poker Bar Rd, down into the canyon along the Trinity River, ending at my driveway. I'm home.

Here is central IL if I want to ride twisties, I go down to the end of the corn field and turn left. :D
We have similar riding in my part of Florida, not corn field but citrus orchards. BORING.....
Citrus trees are in bloom now so it worth the ride just for the nose treat....... and to snitch a few fruit for fresh squeezed juice.
