Rode my Super Tenere on a 2500 mile trip. Nine states in nine days. From CT to TN. Even rode the tail of the dragon. Blue Ridge Parkway along the entire length. Found some dirt roads thanks to TomTom winding roads feature. Loaded for camping with my Jesse bags. Could not be happier with the bike. Can't wait to do it again.

I look forward to seeing your very well-written letter in an upcoming motorcyclist magazine. Until then and dependent of their response, I probably won't by another one of their magazines. Very good summary.
Thanks, but don't hold your breath. In the last sentence I hinted at the unreliability of the BMW and KTM as diplomatically as I could. That could very well make the letter disappear into the recycle bin.

Yeah it'll likely never get published, but I'd love to see the editor's response if it did!

Well I guess I'll just save the money I would've spent on their magazine for upcoming break downs or visits to the Starbucks coffee joint.

Oh wait..... Your letter probably have a better chance of escaping the recycle bin on its own, and imprinting itself into the magazine.

I must be the biggest idiot of the bunch! I own both, a Triumph Explorer and a Super Tenere. I'm so dumb I actually enjoy both of them. To make it worse I put 330 miles on a friends '14 GS and didn't like it. Let's see ya beat that!

Sal,
Great I too love my Super T AND was at MSTA's STAR in Rapid City on my 2014 ES Super Tenere!

When all is said and done. I follow the rules as spelled out by the key words of this song:

Love The One Your With.

I just finished a 4,000 mile 10 day ride to and from the MSTA STAR (rally) n Rapid City on my new to me 2012 Super Tenere. Road in hellish downpours from St. Louis all the way to South Dakota, Side winds that would make a 747 pilot wary in Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana and other; gone up Bear Tooth Pass and Chief Joseph Highway, hit the gas to stay away from amorous Buffalo in the Badlands and sweated like a pig in the heat. Bike was flawless whether going 20 miles an hour or much, much faster.

Basically, if your happy with what your riding and you have a grin every time you get on or off of it --- it is the right bike for you.

But in my case anyhow, as far as the Super Tenere is concerned: "I LOVED THE ONE I WAS WITH".

FWIW, the current Rider has a test of the GS Adventure, KTM and SuperT. The GS and Katoom both put out more power (big shocker there) but the Super T hangs right with 'em in real world riding, including off road. Rider points out, quite well, that all these beasts are "allroad" bikes, NOT dirt bikes. They will take you anywhere you want to go if ridden intelligently. They are NOT 200 lb dirt bikes like some of the other magazines try to use them as. THe guys from Rider did not "crash test" any of 'em (kind of like you'd want to treat you OWN bike if you are paying for it ;D

I flew to Detroit to pick up my bike. Just based on some pictures and seeing the bike at the NYC Mootrcycle show. Admittedly it needed soem after market adjustments to make it perfect, but that's exactly where I'm at now. My bike is dialed in and wouldn't trade it in for anything. As a matter of fact, I sat on 10 different bikes today at a dealership and the only bike I was happy and excited to be on was my S10 on the ride home. Amazing. ::012:: 13,500 miles and I'm just warming up.

My apologies if you've already addressed this, but what about the GS was not to your liking? Not looking for a slam-fest, just wondering what your opinion of the bike was seeing that you own two of its competitors...

I really don't like the motor and in fairness to the GS I am not a fan of the boxer in any bike. While the '14 was better than older boxer motors I still felt like I was thrashing it to make it go. It would go but always felt like I was forcing every rpm out of it. The bike felt a bit awkward too. Certainly doesn't turn as quick as the Triumph. I guess a lot of it is gut impression. I like the "feel" of the S10 better than the GS. The seat was terrible but that is easily remedied on any bike.

I'm coming late to the party, but thought this worth mentioning….

I read the same article in the August edition of Motorcyclist magazine too. My wife always notices the covers and asks innocently, "How'd your Tenere do?" I give her the summary stating the bikes (costing thousands more) are always ranked better given their increased power and lighter weight. Then she (innocently enough), points out the ad on page 99 of the same magazine for, The ADVENTURE RALLY SERIES 2014 - ROCKIES or SIERRA Edition; "Isn't that a Tenere?" Yup, she was right. Right there in the same mag is a full page ad for a pair of 3-day adventure rallies with WHAT BIKE featured in the "emotionally arousing/living the experience" primary photo? A matte grey Super Tenere! Oh the irony!

They need to tell these magazines that the Tenere can't read, it just does what it is asked to do and does it well. Only problem I have with mine is my inseam is 30 in. and sometimes I just feel too short, but once underway, all is well. I looked at the bigger picture before purchasing and that was reliability and maintenance costs, here the Tenere beats them all. Add to that the great deal I got on a new 2012 and it just beat them all. I was looking at a used Ducati Multistrada, but I thought, how many Ducati dealerships do I ride by, answer none in my state at all. This bike is comfortable and has way less felt heat than my 750 Nighthawk had, and that means a lot in the south on a summer day. I have just about gave up on T mode, as I hardly notice the off idle stumble in S mode.

Glad mine can't read...and someone forgot to tell her she's too heavy and slow...

Which I'm thankful for of course, don't need to be dealing with any emotional baggage from the bike...she gets along just fine - ignorance is bliss....

Motorcyclist in addition to beating the tar out of perfectly good bikes also has the facts wrong. To disable TC (on my '14 anyway) press and hold the TC button. Traction Control turns off. I guess they didn't read the owners manual. I checked, the manual is right, the magazine is wrong..

I don't recall Motorcyclist saying anything about disabling Traction Control.

Yamabob, they make lowering links for the S10 and if you take your time it is a 15 install. Makes life much easier for those of us that are vertically challenged.
