Ok so have you ever started a project and had it all tore apart and something else came up and you didn't get back to it for a month? (kept forgetting to finish it after I got home from work late)

I am trying to change the look on the top box for the a tenere so I pulled all the silver aluminum panels by pulling the screws out from all the injection molded pcs. Pretty easy until the back panel that you have to take the lock apart and then slowly disassemble the components. Well...... Slow is alright until a spring here or there goes in a direction you weren't expecting.

Has anyone taken theirs apart or about to?

I need some help on one little spring and where it goes? Also can't get the hook to pivot back and forth like it's supposed to.

Here are some pics....

I have no idea about that spring, but I will look at mine and find out. So, you went a lot farther into disassembly than me, I simply popped the round black cover off behind the lock, removed the 2 small screws, fished the lock assembly plate out and then pushed the cylinder out the front with my finger. Put new cylinder in and replace lock plate. Let me look today and I will post pics of spring.

If you do pull it back apart take pictures as you're doing it. There are two plastic pcs that slip over the lock cylinder and need to be located in the correct position (timing) otherwise the lock hook won't engage or the bottom hasp won't stay in to hold it to the bike.

There is a spring at the bottom that looks identical but cannot seem to find the home for it. Only problem I now have is that turning left locks the box down. Turning right will open the box but the hook doesn't come back to center like I think it should.

I had to use this little T10 with the hole in the center to get the lock cylinder out

I'm at the same step that you last posted. I have my inside apart (actually waiting on the new lock cylinder from my dealer) and have no real good idea how to get it back together. Where the heck does that extra spring go? Hit me here or even better, rwr_1068@yahoo.com

Tip. To make the box lock tighter, attach two small wire ties to the shafts that hook grips onto. Rotate the cut portion out of sight to the hook. Works great!
