No one hardly buys the oem crashbar either,or the tall windshield. Its plain these are for light duty. Less superior than proven aftermarket brands.

I have 'em on my bike but I can't say I've really tested them in extreme conditions. I've run them fully loaded off road for several hundred miles but haven't ever crashed with 'em. I hope they last (so far so good) but I'll keep in mind not to load them too heavy if I'm headed somewhere really rough. Anyway, I don't have the skills to be raging at 50+ mph fully loaded in sand whoops. ;D

In these instances where they have failed, it would be nice to know how much was in 'em and on 'em when the failure occurred. They do post the load limits.

Like mine fine. I don't plan on taking this beast on anything rougher than dirt/gravel roads. No trails for me on this pig, I've the wr250r for that.

I've friends with Caribou's, Jesse's which are more rugged for sure, but they ain't going anywhere extreme either. Props to those who can and do.

I always looked askance at that part... but it never seemed to actually cause a problem for me. Mine took a nice fall on the dirt with only cosmetic damage. They didn't seem bothered by rough roads at all. I am thinking he had them loaded heavy, or perhaps there was a manufacturing defect in his.

I rented a GS with the varios for a week. They are incredibly heavy. One fell off. The post it hangs one was missing. I wired it on with piano wire. The bag had significant cosmetic damage. I was mortified and dreading what the rental folk were going to have say, even though I couldn't think what I had done wrong. What they said was, "Oh, sorry!" Apparently the other one had already done the same and they had welded the mounting post in. Now regretted not doing the same on this side as well. When I mentioned it on a forum I was told some version of, "they all do that."

Part of the territory when riding the rough stuff.

Hey guys.. No crash, no abuse, just riding down a trail in Utah at about 20mph and hit a washout rut perpendicular to the track. You can see in the pic on advrider, the case was loaded with 20 lbs of pop tarts, coleman aluminum mess kit, jetboil burner, beef jerky, oatmeal and one Teva sandal on top of a happy trails pannier top bag with my wallet and flashlight in it (not over loaded... :) )

I'm hoping it was just a defective casting, hopefully Yamaha will make it right. The local dealer made contact with a quality rep and they requested pics. (I sent them the pic link in the adv thread)

Got back from a 2500 mile two up ride through AL, TN, NC, GA and
back to FL. OEM sides and top case. OEM crash bars. Dropped
the bike at a GA stop sign when I put my foot in a wheel rut and
down we went. Each bag loaded with 15lbs (weighed). Top case
11 lbs. stuff sack on each side case with rain gear, jackets, etc.
Results....scratch on left lower Crash bar. Scuff on front corner of
left pannier. No failure of attachment, no damage to anything else.
Scuff on left hand guard. I like them and they work fine for me.
Much lighter than the Aluminum cases of my Buddies GSA.
I subscribe to the 'lighter and pack less' philosophy.
