Hi guy's,
This will be my first post, so be gentle :)
I would very much appreciate your opinions on this:

I currently ride a 2013 XT660Z with 6000km and my dealer has proposed me to change it for a 2013 XT1200Z with 1000km for 13000€.

Given that on top of handing my 660 plus 7500€, I still have one year warranty, and that the 2014 S10 has several improvements, should I wait for next year to get a 2014 model or should I go for it right now?

Thank's,
César

In my opinion, Keep the 660 and get the 2014 super tenere, but it depends on your riding habits and your finances.

I have never seen a 660 in person being from the US, but I hear great things about them. A lot of riders will keep one for off road and the other for touring. It's nice to have an option.

I would love to have one of each but unfortunately that's not possible :(

I've done a test ride for the 2013 S10 and it complete blew me away.
So much better than the 660..

Has anyone tested the 2014 S10 new model?

Tks,
César

If it were me, id check financially if I could work out a deal on a 2014. If the answer is no, not comfortably, easily or in the time I wanted, i'd go for the 2013. And see if the dealer can do better on the 2013 price. If compared directly to the US market (which is not a direct comparison, I concede), the price seems a bit high. Local market conditions, however, might mean its a good price. The 660's remain in demand, too, so make sure the value being given for that bike is fair.

Keep in mind, if you are used to going off road, the 1200 will, generally speaking, be harder to manage.

Your 660 has low mileage. I had about 8,000 miles on my FJR when I traded it in. My bike plus $3500 usd and I had my new S10. And do they have records for the first fluid changes on that S10? It should have been done around 600 miles, and with a thousand miles on it, you'll want an accounting of those miles to ensure the bike wasn't abused on test rides. ;)

you may want to search the site and find Jaume's posts. He's an ex 1200 owner that went to a 660 for his type of riding.

13 euro's for a older tenere seems very high. I know that Europe has extremely high prices compared to Canada and the US, but in my mind that seems high.
I was in France in 2010, and saw a new first edition tenere for $15500 euro.

Having looked at the new 2014, I would not sell my 2012 and upgrade. Nothing wrong with the old model, in fact I prefer it.
more here if you're bored: http://thetenerist.wordpress.com/2014/01/11/2014-calgary-mc-show/

If for some reason your 660 lacks in power, then yes it maybe a good switch, to me the 660 would be a perfect euro bike.

entirely depending on your riding. I had the 660 and it was good for allmost everthing, but, and it´s a big but, I went from Spain up to Sweden on lots of fast tarmac and with quite a lot of packing. That´s when I decided to change for the ST. Havn´t regretted that, but still would prefer the 660 when leaving tarmac.... So mayby two bikes is the correkt thing... ::26:: and by the way, have the - 12 and can´t see any great advantage with later model..

Thank's for all the replies!

80% to 90% of my driving is done in the city.
I agree that for those percentages the 660 is way better than the S10...but I still haven't drive an S10 in rush hour.

I haven't done any off road adventure with the 660 and, for now off road is not on my plans. For that reason the S10 is very much appealing. When the sunny weekends appear, the miles just pile up :)

I have seen the jaumev threads and site, and I just wish I had the chance to do riding like he does.

The price my dealer is proposing maybe a little high, but he is putting all the legal stuff in it. The bike is a service bike and dealer informed me that the first fluid change was made at Yamaha Portugal (the owner :) ).
The low mileage on my 660 and the fact that it's only one year old makes me have second toughs. Part of me thinks I should keep the 660 for one more year and buy the S10 in 2015...

Tks,
César

The ST works exelently in the city for me ! ::001::
I realise that this might be considered blasfemi on this site, but if you ride mostly in the city and do some miles on weekends, there are lots of really good alternatives in 650 range with a little more power than the xt660. Yammas as well as all the other japs...and for sure Italians..

Great pics! I intend to do some travelling like that in the summer.

@rednax
How are the your fuel consumption's for riding in the city?
The problem with other bike alternatives is that they are not a S10 :)

My opinion keep the 660 and enjoy it for a while. No need to go in debt even more when you already have a bike you like.
