Hi all,

I just got an S-10 and I am do to sit on the JBR starting line in just over five weeks, crazy, I know. I could use some farkles some of you might want to get rid of:

A seat
A throttle lock
A tank bag, but I am pretty set on getting an RKA for the electrics, just thought I would put it here, you never know who might have one to get rid of.
GPS mounts
Fuel Cell- although I believe this is covered, putting it here just in case the other falls through.

I think that about covers it, but if you have any other item of interest drop me a line.

Thank for looking :)

Welcome to the forum. JBR?

Or did you mean to type IBR? 39 days... Dat you Tonie?

I'm in, and riding the Super Ten. PM me if you have questions or concerns. That's a short time to farkle an LD bike.

Check out the for sale/little pimping section of the forum and don't forget about ADV.

I adapted the VistaCruise two line throttle lock for the Super Ten, and am installing CC as well. There are some very nice throttle locks if you want to spend the coin, but the VC works and is cheap.

GPS mounts - specify what model and how/where you want to mount it. RAM mounts are your cost effective method. I like the Twisted Throttle sold SWMotec City Bag with it's extra GPS mount right off the bag. I also got their anti-vibe mount off the wind screen mounts for the second GPS.

Fuel cell - Contact Ernie A in Portland if you need to. He has two styles for the Super Ten all worked out. I have his Flat Bed design, I know others with the Pillion Mount design.http://www.eazcycle.com/

Hi Eric,

Yes it is me as I am sure you have been told by now :)

I was planning to ask you some questions as I figured out what to ask. Your help in advance of that has already helped me, you already knew.

Fortunately, most of the farkles are being moved from the old mount to the new. I see my biggest problem as the seat. 11,000+ miles stock has me hurting already. Fiigure I can do it between my beads, bear, a gel pad, and lots of advil if nec. I called russell to plead for a seat, no go, as I expected. Thinking about a corbin so I have something to sit on while I wait for a russell. I had a Bill Mayer on my last mount and liked that as well, was hoping someone here was going to have one they did not want from the group buy. Considering Bill Mayer's sit on top version to make it through the IBR. And yes I am a terrible typer, who rarely checks her work before pushing send. I figure everyone will figure out what I meant :)

I hear you on the seat. I tried a Cee Bailey's, but it had too much memory foam for my weight. Cletha's Cee Bailey's is awesome, but the one the made for me just didn't cut it. I sold it and sprung for a Russell Day Long and it's just as comfy as the last one I had. But as you indicated, they are not very friendly to a tight time line. Especially this time of year. Bill Mayer may be more understanding, since he's more familiar with the LD community. Rich's in WA might be worth talking to as well, if Bill doesn't work out.

There is also Spencer, which is a bit different. Some folks rave about them, others not so much, but he does seem to work with people to get what they http://greatdaytoride.com/Home_Page.php]need/want.http://greatdaytoride.com/Home_Page.php

Saddleman is another option, though more expensive than a Russell. http://www.saddlemen.com/] http://www.saddlemen.com/ They have a tailbone relief seat that has some good reviews. Just depends on your issues and needs. There were some forum posts about getting a seat done with the stock cover for ~$200, but I don't have details. Might be worth a phone call or email. Their Adventure Tour is $350 for the solo seat option.

Another option that I found with a search - http://www.tscustomseats.com/ Tom Simmons. Looks similar to the RDL design. Pricing is kind of high and he's prone to back rests and double seats, but might be worth talking to for a solo seat. He's in AR and if you scroll thru the photo gallery, there are some Sport Touring bikes and others that look more like what you would want, rather than the huge double seats on scooters and trikes with back rests.

Seat Concepts - This might not be more than a stop gap, but for the $159, perhaps better than beads and a sheep skin. http://www.seatconcepts.com/products#!/~/product/category=1671359&id=15531733

Corbin and Sergeant are off the shelf seats, both widely discussed as being hard, but they work for some people. Not a direction I'd go, but honestly I haven't tried the Sergeant either, but did have a Corbin on a SS750 that was ok. never tried it for long days though.

kaoka throttel lock - $115 http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=8201.0 (if you like that style)

Potential GPS cradles if you have a Garmin 450/550 - http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=7938.msg0#new

Good luck to both of you in the IBR! I've wanted to try for it for ages, but timing never works out. Will definitely be following your progress with great interest!

I'll put in a vote for a Sargent seat - just did an SS3K, with the last 1900+ miles being stops for gas only, and the Sargent worked great.

something simple and inexpensive is to get a Gocruise throttle lock. They work great! I have done back and forth to Denver straight through twice and it works like a charm. I also just got a cushy cover that just straps on top of my seat. I think it is some kind of air seat that lets air flow between you and the seat. Two quick and easy options for a long ride.

Always good to have more input RoboCop. Her upcoming long ride is about 11k miles in 11 days. Even small annoyances become major ones when you're on the bike for 20 hours strait, day after day. I have one of those Gocruise throttle locks. Thanks for reminding me to put it up for sale. It's somewhat dependent on grip size and wear. I have the correct size, but it doesn't really stay in position well for the wife's GS, (what I got it for).

Didn't see anything specific to the bike listed, but a set of K-60s should last for the whole rally.

I agree, but am not taking any chances. I'll start on a fresh pair of K60s and swap the rear at checkpoint 2 in NorCal for a fresh K60. I typically get 12k from the K60s, but expect to be riding some coarser pavement that is hard on tires and with some high temps and constant speeds w/o shorter heat cycles.

I was disappointed to get only 8500 miles from a PR3 Trail on the rear and the front is badly cupped now. That eliminated it from my choices for the IBR.

I don't blame you for not taking chances! IBR it too big a deal to let tires, etc. get in the way, and with 5 weeks to go, experimenting is probably not a good risk! I noticed somewhat above average rear tire consumption on my trip back from Chicago, which took me through WI, MN, IA, ND, MT, WY, SD, CO and NE, all of which have higher speed limits and somewhat coarser road surfaces than I usually subject the tires to. Tread life seems to be unaffected at an indicated 75 mph, but declines measurably at an indicated 85-90. I also observed some cracking by the base of the tread blocks on the rear tire developing after running out 5 or 6 tanks with fuel stops only at mostly 85-90 mph indicated. The set has 15k on it now, and the rear looks like it usually does at 20k. I'm running 33 psi front, 42.5 psi rear.

Who makes the K60's? I have been planning on using the Metzler Tourances. I hear of people generally getting 15+K on them, so I figured I would be golden for the 12K of the rally.

What do you want for the throttle lock Eric, I might take it off your hands. I saw one on the throttle lock thread I was leaning towards, but saving money always gets me first. With my Dakar I had used one of those rubber bands that come on your mail, was always cheap to replace. I thought I would upgrade the Caterpillar O-ring everyone is always talking, but then I went and read the throttle lock discussion and was drawn in, lol.

Heidenau makes the K-60s. Revzilla has them in stock in Super Tenere size. My last set went nearly 30k miles, but this was not in rally conditions, and is somewhat unusual. I anticipate getting approximately 25k out of the current set.

Tourances seem to wear well, but stay away from the EXP version. The K60s are Heidenau K60 Scouts and are a bias ply tire that is more of a 60/40 street/dirt tire and has a solid center rib that helps greatly with mileage. It's not for everyone, but I've run two sets and like the ability to go off pavement with them. Whether that will be of any use in this IBR, is anyone's guess. They have worn consistently for me, at a solid 12k, for the rear, but other have gotten for more, AND far less. I would not suggest them for anyone that hasn't run them before, as far as the IBR is concerned. As far as what other people are getting for tire mileage, remember that rally conditions are not quite as tire friendly as normal riding. I am actually quite amazed at the apparent number of IBR riders that plan on one set of tires for the entire rally. Very few tires out there will do that outside car tires, and some of these riders are going to be coming in to the finish with crappy, very worn tires, inho. I don't want to ride the last thousand miles of the rally on the last thousand miles of my rear tire. I expect to ship the take off tire in NorCal back home to finish off in normal riding, but it might not be worth doing that.

We have a CAT Cock Ring laying around too that you can have. The Gocruise was $19.95 new, call it $12 shipped to your door. If that's good, PM or email me your shipping info and I take PP at the email in my profile.

This is a TS Custom seat Tom has made three seats for me and they all have been great.

What did you use for HID brackets? I have future visions and have not found any brackets yet.

Still thinking about the go cruise. My only thought is how long will it work, might just be better to install something that will will long term. I will let you know.

I wish I had some time to try things out before the IBR, but there is just no time left.

I bolted my light brackets to the crash bars. My center HID is a DOT legal low beam with a great cut off that allows me to leave it on with on-coming traffic. The LED 10º spots are bolted to KC brackets that fit the 1" tubing of my Rumbux Crash bar. (I still have one of those in stock, btw. Will cut you an IBR price if you want, PM me for that info.)

PIAA makes light brackets too that are nicely adjustable, but I think they look a little flimsy. I have a set of Rumbux light mounts in stock as well, ($40), that are industrial stout, but really designed for the factory lights or smaller PIAA lights sold by Yamaha. You can use them with a single post light as well, but may have to drill the hole larger.

The KCs are simple and made from some polymer that is fiber reinforced. Link HERE

The GoCruise has a rubber band to slip over the grip if needed. You'd have to loosen the handguard to get it on, but not too big a deal. On fresh grips, it should work well for months/years. Cletha's grips were already pretty worn when we tried it.

Yep, time is running out and many of us still have things to do.

Would your light mounts work on the factory guard?

If so would you send me picture.

Thank you so much, sorry to keep bugging you. I owe you some beer after the IBR.
