I was thinking about putting a 250X on the street as a filler until the XT gets here. I know there are other 250cc out there but I'm partial to Yammi. I need to stay sharp with my riding skills being a MSF coach and sitting out the whole riding season is tough to take. I can ride the range bikes but not on the street so my riding time is limited. I'm going to call my dealer today and see if there is anything he can do to help me out. Do you guys have any thoughts on the WR250X I've read the good and bad on the net but thought I would ask the S10 group. Thanks

All I really have to say is there are plenty of used bargains out there. I wouldn't buy a new one. Best 250 around if you don't mind wringing the piss out of it.

The WR250's are great little bikes. I've not heard much bad about either the WR'R or the WR'X. Fun bikes around town or in the dirt, and I've done both. Can pretty much do anything a 400-650 cc thumper can do. About the only place I won't take the WR is on the Freeway, too light and too underpowered for that. Post some pics when you get one.

By all accounts a great little bike. As others have said though, I wouldn't buy a new one and suffer the depreciation unless you're sure you'll keep it long-term. And I think the R version is a lot more versatile - a 250 seems a little small for a street bike. I think the WR250 makes a much better trail bike than a motard.

If you just want something to tide you over to sell later, I'd get a DRZ - the SM if you want the motard. They are cheaper to begin with and are being discounted heavily right now, widely available used, have a ton of aftermarket support, and the extra 10 horses makes all the difference if you have to do any highway work.

I sure like my WRR.
Look over on Thumper Stuff under Yamaha Dual Sport for mods and info.
