Would you buy your ST again?

I have owned many adventure bikes and am now looking at the ST for my big trip bike. Ease of ownership and low maintenance are a priority for me after owning several KTM's (still have a 525). Shaft drive is a big plus.

My question is that with the current bikes available: the new GS, the new KTM 1190, the Tiger Explorer, and the others, would you still buy a super tenere?

I got to spend some time on the new GS and I was impressed. However 21k is a lot of money and I really do not want to buy a first year BMW model. I really wish the super tenere had cruise control like the GS.

2013 ST's are going for good deals - thinking of buying new if I can get a great deal. When do the 14's come out?

Thanks!

The 2014 Super Tenere has cruise control, but who knows when it will be offered here in the USA. Rumors are around March?

I would replace mine no doubt especially knowing it's capabilities and traits now. I spent some time on a GS-W and was impressed as well but was glad to get back on the Super Tenere. Best adventure bike secret on the market.

For sure! Perfect bike for the wife and I with what we do. Pavement and hard packed dirt roads. The only things you have to change on this bike is oil, filters, and tires for it to take you as far as you want to go. ::022::

I think that's when dealers can order them. Actually delivery to them and onto customers would likely be later...

But as to the OP - HELL YEAH. It will take you to the gnarliest off road stuff you could ever dream of taking a 600lb adv bike, or eat up the hard ball roads for a looong time. The bike gives me confidence on trails other folks think I have no reason being on. Point it and go.

The aftermarket segment is growing which lets you customize the bike for what you want to ride.

what he said! and ::026:: w/ everyone else including the experienced guy who said "Ease of ownership and low maintenance are a priority" ::017::

Dependable and reliable, I would never think twice about striking out on an 80, 800 or 8000 mile ride.

Cheers, dean ::001::

I absolutely would buy it again. Been riding 39 years, and this is the best bike I have ever owned. It's as reliable as a bike can be, tough as nails, outstanding off road. I love it!!!!

Thank you all for your input! The most stark thing in my research for the super tenere is the almost total lack of complaints or issues from owners. That is a good sign! Yamaha seem to have hit a home run. I have been in the owners circles for many of the bikes I have had, including the KLR, KTM 950 and 990, Tiger, F800GS, Vstrom, etc, and there are many threads in those forums about breakdowns, woes, or bad dealer experiences. Not so with the Tenere! Just happy riders.

I could buy a used GSA for about the cost of a new Tenere, but on the GSA, the higher maintenance, lower reliability, expense of parts, and the fact that it would be used, are all turn offs for me. Many people who have ridden and can afford both bikes seem to prefer the Tenere regardless of price.

Does anyone know a good Yamaha dealer in Socal that does demo rides? That is one thing I will give BMW credit for, they will throw the keys to their bikes at you when you walk in. Has not been my experience with the japanese dealerships.

I'd be tempted by the 1190 (not the R) because they are actually selling them in Oz at very good prices. BUT an engine that gets a bit unhappy under 3K and under 98RON is the same problem as the last bike was sold.

Great if you are a test rider trying to impress the others, but in the real world, give me an engine that is happy to chugga down when needed without frying clutches and doesn't make you feel like doing 150km/h everywhere.

It's all fun until you are reduced to a 1/2 horepower bike with 15 speed derailleurs because the cops know you too well.

Put simply, I need a bike that works in the real world. So the S10 is hanging around for a long time yet unless they come out with a mini me Super Tenere XT900Z. Based on my experience with the 1200 that should be a Super Easy Tenere.

No issues so far either. Fuel, oil, tires, wash. End of story.

I'm 99% sure that Simi Valley Cycles has / had a Super Tenere that you could demo. But call them first to verify. The bike they were using was for sale a few weeks ago.

After 2+ years and 33,000 miles on this Beast, if it were stolen or totaled, I'd buy the exact same bike again. In fact, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another 2012, new or used. And, I would farkle it 99% identical to this one. It's THAT perfect! Even my wife is amazed that I haven't shown any interest in buying any new bikes or even ride any of those I already own.

This is the GSA that BMW still hasn't built. And they had their chance to get me.

Yes. I bought my Tenere based on the input of folks from this forum. It has been everything that was reported. I just love it.

I test rode their Tenere one on my Bishop Dual sport ride. Holy Crap!! What A bike. It was bone stock. I had it for a good hour. No offroad with it but was doing some slow speed drills in the parking lot and was impressed how easy it was to control at less than walking pace. Headed out on the pavement and the thing is a deceptive missile. It will bust 100mph at the blink of an eye. I'm just a "C" rider at best. I really want one of these. It is the most comfortable bike I have ever swung a leg over.

Yes, I had a 2012 Super T for a year and 20k + miles. I got a bug up my ass to try something different now and a year later I just bought a 2013 Super T.
