Wish I had bought something else

I was on vacation when I bought my S10. I bought it in Birmingham, AL and I live 3 1/2 hours south of there.

When I bought it, I had them add the Yamaha Luggage.

Now, the top case lid is warping. When it is closed and latched, the outside corners of the lid are both bowed up and not sealing. It was a little bit warped when I got it, but it is much worse, now. Everybody notices it and asks if it is closed, completely.

So, when I went to the local dealer and inquired about replacing it under warranty, they said I would have to take it back to the dealership where I bought it.

I called Yamaha Corporate, and they said the same thing. (AFTER the lady at Corporate had contacted the local dealer (strange)).

You would think in this such a competitive business, that you could get a little help at the corporate level, especially since they would have to replace the top box no matter whether they did it where I live or where I bought the bike. (Difference being my trouble and expense of a round trip ride of 7 hours).

So then, I called the Dealership in Birmingham, to see if he could help me. He called corporate and he was told that the "accessory" has a one year warranty and should be replaced at ANY Yamaha Dealership. That makes perfect sense. What if I moved to Alaska? Would I be expected to drive across the country to get a single part replaced under warranty?

However, that does not solve my problem, since the local dealer is unwilling to help.

The next time I am researching a new bike purchase, I will include owner warranty satisfaction!!!

Does anyone know of a good Yamaha dealership, that might be willing to "do the right thing" that is closer to Mobile, AL, than Birmingham?

Try owning a Triumph!
You have to wait for the part to arrive from the UK, then find a dealer who sells Triumph to have it shipped to.
Some Triumph dealers that I read about on the old T forum would take a part off a floor model to help the bike owner out.
Ask your local rep if he would do that for you.

Keep working in Yamaha corporate, sounds like you got a ill informed CS agent. Any dealer should be able to warranty and factory part. The dealer is a fool because he his cutting his nose of to spite his face..... if he helps you out today you can be a customer tomorrow.....now he may have lost one. Short sightedness....

Total BS, I bought my bike at Romneys, WV and have my warranty work done PA. File a complaint with Yamaha corporate and give the dealer a unsatisfactory rating. I get those surveys every time I take my bike in regardless of the dealer that performed the service.

Have you talked to the owner at your local dealer? I'd explain to them that all future work could be done by them if they handled this claim for you like they should.

This sounds like absolute garbage from that dealer. Any dealership should be able to replace it. It's not even like they have to do any real "work" on the bike. It's simply a matter of taking the old case off, and putting on a new one with the lock replaced.

Push this dealer to get it replaced.

Thanks everybody, for the advice. You gave me the idea to contact corporate, again. But, this time, I briefed my wife on the situation. Then I let HER call corporate. Everything will be taken care of locally.

Go ahead. Laugh if you will, but it was simply a matter of using the right tool for the job.

Dana, the local dealership and Yamaha are not telling the truth. Ask this warranty request to be escalated. Use this scenario... You bought the Super10 in Alabama and moved to California. ould you ave to return to Alabama for the warranty. Of course not. Common sense and customer service should have equal value.

Glad it got worked out as well.

I don't get why your local Yamaha dealer was giving you the run around... wouldn't they have been reimbursed any labor from Yamaha? They don't have to "eat" that cost do they?
Here in Tulsa (actually Supulpa), we have America's oldest Yamaha dealer.. K&N Motorcycles. They have always been awesome. In fact, just up until yesterday, I had been working with them on getting an ES the early part of next year (wanted to wait until after I got my tax rebate). After I started hearing about the discounts and seeing the color of the 2015... I decided I needed to find a 2014 right away. Lucy at K&N was unable to get me one as they didn't have one on the floor and there were no dealers in her network that had one, but she did tell me about one an hour and a half away that the dealer was not willing to trade her. She proactively told me that if I could get them to sell it to me that they would handle any warranty issue and still take great care of me and not "move me to the back of the line" :) when it came time for service. I got a hold of the other dealer, we agreed on a great price, put down a deposit... and now I'm just praying that nothing falls thru between now and Tuesday... ;D . Once again, super glad that K&N is our dealer.

Now that is a sign of an awesome dealer. They are obviously in it for the long haul and have worked hard to establish a long-term relationship with you, even if it costs them a sale at this time. They clearly see the big picture.

Cheers,

Bruce

Wow, that is an awesome dealer!

Glad to read the OP got sorted, and hopefully that goes thru smoothly now with the local dealer. Sounds like some wires got crossed the first time.

Congrats KendallT on the soon to be shiny Super Ten in the garage. ::012::
