Windshield turbulance

I just completed a long weekend 1100 mile ride. I have a Parabellum 22" windshield with Wasp's adjustable bracket and love this setup, it is quiet and smooth right up to 80mph. I just discovered that while on the highway with cars in front or alongside of me I have horrible turbulance, my head and screen bobble horribly. When the traffic clears it is perfectly smooth again. Anybody have any suggestions? I was shocked by this, think the windshield is too tall for the plastic supports? I was ready to sell the bike while in was in VA and fly home. I have to ride to Alaska and can't do it with this set up. I am going to go back to the stock screen and see how it feels. Otherwise the bike felt great, very comfy and it feels like it loosened up and runs better. It just turned 3000 miles.

You get that with every bike on the freeway as far as I know. I had it with my XJ600, my FJR1300 and now with my S10.

That's just turbulence caused by the cars in front of you, not by your own windshield. The less aerodynamic the thing in front of you the heavier the turbulence. The worst are those Jumper/Transit/Sprinter type of light trucks.

I struggle with this on every bike. I have a madstad F650GS (twin) large screen which I cut down and it does a really good job except when in traffic also. I have used it with the wasp adjustable mount and right now I have it mounted with 3/8" thick rubber standoffs only. Cross winds are pretty bad also.

The good part, it does catch most of the bugs. I have a small shield that is great with no turbulence but you are in the wind, so very tiring on long trip and your visor catches all the bugs instead which requires more cleaning and often.

I have tried the OEM screen in several different setups and it just does not work for long distance.

I use to get more buffeting from my OEM shield. This was also true with cross and quarter winds. Since I bought the V-Stream medium screen I don't notice this nearly as much. I do have the Madstad bracket.

I also used the Parabellum with Wasp's bracket and it was better than OEM, but still not as good as the V-Stream. Your mileage may vary...

I went with the CalSci shorty and the buffeting has been negated. I still get a blast of air, about mid visor now (6' 32" inseam, seat in the low position), but it's smooth air. As far as turbulence from other vehicles, I don't know what you can do about that other than tuck in a bit until you can pass. That's been my solution anyway...

I agree happens with all bikes to varying degree. Good news on the way to Alaska is traffic will be less of an issue north of Edmonton!! Adjust your distance from vehicles is another solution::021::
