Check your garage, you may be a Yamaholic. I am. It's one of my few positive vices. ::003::

I've not gotten any pushback on my choice, nor would I care. Ridden with any sanity, a good rider can do what he wants on any number of bikes. You just rarely have a situation any more where the machine is holding back the rider.

I like Y because I have a great Y dealer in town and Y seems to make good looking, reliable, high performance bikes in every category I've ever been interested in.

I did note recently that the only buddies of mine that have owned BMW's and Ducatis are both very experienced professional mechanics! ;)

Probably just a coincidence.

There are a few individuals in the GS crowd that are threatened by a newcomer that does everything their beloved GS's do, and at a $4000 discount. This and the Yamaha reliability pushes them off the edge :D. All that anger is simply self hatred being directed outwardly. I am not a psycho therapist but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

The only people who have said derogatory things about my Super10, are the random people who come trotting up to me at gas stations and say something like "Wow, chicks on bikes rock, but crotch rockets, I dunno, they're so dangerous... have you ever considered [sic]upgrading to a Harley? I've always wanted a motorcycle. I know I could buy a Jap bike for a lot less money but I'm holding out for a Harley because I want the best! My husband's cousin's stepdad has a 1978 spork-head that's faster than your bike. What *is* your bike, anyway? Is is a 250? Is that a snowsuit? Aren't you hot? You know in Ohio you don't have to wear a helmet, do you ever want to go there just so you can feel the wind in your hair? Aren't you afraid, out here alone? Bless your heart!" Eventually they wind down, and get back in their pickup trucks and leave. I don't care what these people say about my bike. They don't bother me - they mean to be friendly and ignorance is just ignorance.

Most can't make an honest assessment of the Tenere because all they have seen is the rear tire. ;)

I've heard those before, always makes me chuckle. I don't mind getting a little hate thrown towards what I'm riding. Lord knows I throw enough at the Harley guys, it would be wrong for me to get upset to have some come back at me.

In a strange way I'm encouraged that the S10 is not universally respected by the masses. Just like my old DL1000, it took a lot of hits from those who didn't ride it, but I knew it was a fantastic bike. Same thing is already happening with the S10. Those of us who ride it are really impressed, those who don't own one make statements borne out of ignorance. As long as Yamaha sells enough of them to be happy and keeps selling/supporting them I'll be very happy not to have to certain elements of the masses counted among my fellow Tenere riders.

I have never had a person say anything derogatory about my bike. Most of the time they just ask about it, and say how nice it is.

Sometimes I do get some grief on my gear, but I just consider the source on that.. ::025::

I still have a vintage 1979 Triumph Bonneville 750 and I have a vintage Triumph tee shirt bought back then that sums it up pretty well. It says:

Triumph Motorcycles
They turn an ordinary man into a mechanic.

After reading all the responses on this thread, my overwhelming reaction is "practice what you preach". There's an awful lot of bashing of other bikes that occurs in this very forum which seems to be to be just as ill-informed and spiteful as what people complain is directed towards the S10.

Mostly I think people think criticism directed towards their choice in bikes is "hateful" and that directed towards other's choices is "frank and honest". Human nature I guess.

Me, I love them all in total, and dislike a lot of individual things that each does. Well, I take that back; I did "hate" the Buell Blast.

I havn't experienced any "hate" since purchasing my bike. Mostly people are genuinely interested and seem intrigued the more they look at it and learn about it. I did get a few sideways looks from some of the people i ride with, all of whom ride cruisers of one sort or another, as to why I would want to own such a bike. I traded in my 2010 Kawasaki Voyager 1700 for this Tenere. Now after having the bike for a while they seem to understand why. The Tenere takes me anywhere I want to go. I am pleased with my decision to own the S10 and really thats all that matters. This bike is definitely a keeper !! ::022:: ::022:: ::021::

They (haters), and we, are defending our choices. Human nature :-\

Time will prove to all the ST is a fantastic bike. Opps, I'm being an Animal again ;D

I've only heard good comments when I have mine out. Anything from that looks like a James Bond bike to a simple cool.

Whats up with all the hate that people have for the Super Tenere? I just dont get it. When I tell people I am getting a Tenere they reply with..."man its a pig why did you buy that?!" Or...."its a major failure by yamaha and the bike is horrible and doesnt do anything well. Its worse offroad than the legendary GS, not as fast as the Multistrada, and over all not worth the money."

I guess I just dont get the hate and was curious. In my opinion is a great freaking bike! Reliable, great offroad, great tourer, and does all things well enough for 99% of the general public.

thoughts?

I just haven't experienced the negative that you have. perhaps you can point me in the direction that is the source of your question.. Everything I have read form RIDER to Motorcyle consumer news has been nothing but positive. Having owned 2 BMW GS's and 1 KLR 650 I like my Super T the best. A year from now it may be a different story but hey life is an adventure right! what are you reading and who are you talking to? All this high praise that I hear and experience is getting a little boring. just kidding!

The Blast almost became my first bike. Luckily you're not the only hater out there. Even Erik Buell crushed it.

When someone says my bike is a pig/heavy, I let them them know I shopped in the men's section. and I did not see "whatever" bike they say is better.
