I'm thinking that a DR650 is what I need and not the Super Tenere. Since I already have a great street bike in the ST1300, the S10 is just too much street and not enough dirt to be different enough.

I ordered in mid-Feb and my expected delivery to the Dallas, TX area is Aug.

If you are interested, let me know and we'll work with my dealer so I get refunded and you get charged the deposit or whatever terms we can come up with.

I like the S10 and if I wasn't planning on keeping the ST I would probably go ahead with the deal but I just don't see that happening, the DR is smaller, cheaper and better equipped to handle the upcoming trips in the dirt I have planned.

Edit: Never mind, temporary insanity... I'm still on the list.

Trust me, the DR650 is no gem and not much of a dirtbike. Spent half of the MSRP trying to make the bike something it is not. Best thing I ever did was sell it. Do yourself a favor and get a WRR.

I had a Honda XL650 and that wasn't much better even after mods. That why I bought the WR450 and got it license for the road.

Sorry to hear that Mellow. No sweat though .... the Pan is a great bike. You may change your mind in year or two and the XT1200Z will be available off the floor.

Completely understandable, guys. Totally. I have a sweet pavement ride so I'm gonna hang in. But if I had no bike and was waiting on this one for a ride, I'd likely be doing the same. I'm very sympathetic to Yamaha and their current situation, but I just emailed my dealer and told him that Yamaha U. S. and/or Yamaha Canada need to start communicating with all these people who have put money down. If they can't deliver, they can't deliver. But Yamaha should be willing to be very clear about what they can and can't do. They must have a pretty good idea by now. It's time. R

Kinda curious, this impatience. When Yamaha announced this bike and the order program, they were very specific in saying that the end of orders would be March 31 and that deliveries would start in May. All of the wild speculation about production(or lack thereof) is totally unfounded and silly. These are "sold" bikes and Yamaha has no other such program going right now. I believe they have already prioritized the Tenere. They would be foolish to do otherwise and simply build bikes on speculation. My dealer has been in touch with Yamaha US. They indicated that no change has been made to the delivery plans.

I wish all well in what they choose to do, but I suspect once the bike is available to ride, remorse will set in. I'm fortunate to have three bikes to ride. If that weren't the case, I'd probably be tempted to buy something to cover the gap this spring as well.

Good luck and good riding!

Paul

Mellow, after riding the ST1300's, then going to a DL1000 VSTROM, I didn't feel there was that much comfort sacrificed. In many many ways, the DL1000 was more comfortable. I think the Tenere will be even better than the STROM with the reliability of the ST1300. I know there was a big smile on my face after riding some twisties on the STrom and how EASY it was to turn!!! For me, a Tenere type of bike is the highest "DO ALL" type of bike there is.
Good luck with your decisions. I to wonder about the true reality of a DR being all that easy to ride in the dirt? Probably not that far from a Tenere really!!!!

For me, it's got nothing to do with impatience, I'm just having a hard time justifying two bikes that are so similar other than one can do a little dirt activity.. I haven't cancelled my order yet and still battling the demons so it's not a done deal either way...

We'll see... I'm still going back an forth - hopefully, this doesn't turn into a Charlie Sheen event.. LOL

Well hope that you like that DR 650 as well. I can understand it though, as I waited a long time to buy an ST1300, and I really really loved it, but it just would not go where I was inclined to go (gravel roads). Getting there was usually over 1000 miles away, so a strict dual sport wouldn't cut it for me. Hoping the Super Tenere fills both challenges.

Funny thing is I figured I'll call a Triumph dealer and see what the 800 XC was all about... a little lighter and I could get one in 3 weeks.... but, it would end up being $75 more OTD... Price wise BMW didn't come close either.. but you all knew that already..

Forgive me for my somewhat schizophrenic posting.. I think I'm okay and the panic has passed... well, until tomorrow.. LOL

Hang in there Mellow, were so close now. If the s10 turns out it's not right for your needs im sure it will be an easy sell for not much loss, or even a gain!

I have been thinking crazy lately myself,,,floating the idea of cancelling my S10 order and getting a new 2011 GSX-R750 ;D why I have no idea other than I sat on one at the dealership the other day. Super sweet in blue and white and light as a feather. ???
