YES, finally something where being short is an advantage!

I'm 5'7'' and have the madstad and yamaha tall windscreen and I have 0 issues with noise or buffeting. I also have a very quiet helmet, so that helps.

For your fogging problem, you should check out the pinlock visors. I will never ride without one again.

+100 on the Pinlock shields for fogging.

I am 5'9", with a 30" inseam. I tried the Madstad bracket with both the stock shield, and the Calsci shorty. I could not find any position that worked for me in terms of eliminating buffeting. The best solution for me was the Calsci shorty tilted back by the use of rubber spacers on the bottom two screws. I currently have the stock shield on the bike with those same spacers, and while not 100%, the buffeting is much improved. I do ontend to add a taller shield eventually, but for now, the shorty covers most of my riding time.

I just installed the MRA Vario Touring Screen, I would not recommend it. This screen has poor optical clarity. It is so bad that it looks like it has a haze on it. This is not acceptable.
Interersting. Perhaps it is a defective one. Mine is tinted, so I wouldn't notice if there was any optical clarity problems. Plus I look over it and not thru it anyway. I would contact your vendor.

Mine is tinted also, the winglet on top and the shield have the same problem. I don't look through it either, but I paid for a quality product. I have never seen another windshield with this problem, I would not recommend it.

This is my thought, on sportsbikes I rode for 20+ years the screens were lower, but much closer and did not give off the low frequency booming I have found on adventure bikes, with a large upright screen they stop buffeting and the "Whoosh" noise (and I can hear my music at higher speed) but I do get lower frequency noise (a bit like when you have the far side car window down, you feel no wind, but hear it clearly enough)

Also if I move forward (not necessarily up) I end up in a much quieter zone, so my thinking is if I could tio my Givi back a shade it would do a much better job, really want to see a madstad on a Tenere first though.
here is my Madstaad on the stock screen. I have it high up and tilted forward but completely vertical. I am 5'7" and so far so good. I need to test it more but the weather here has been bad with snow on the weekends!. Planning to get the OEM side deflectors next and it these do the job I am done. Last step would be a larger screen like the Parabellum. I too have tried leaning forward with the stock screen (no Madstaad) and experienced sweet silence so I think for my height, the adujustability of the Madstaad bracket and the stock screen will do the job. More testing needed however.

This just isn't true. The one you have must have some kind of problem because the optical clarity on mine is perfect and I have had MRA screens before without any problems. They are a really high quality product. I would get it back to wherever you bought it and get it replaced.
::026:: Very Happy with my MRA Vario.

Oh it is true Poohbear, and Twisted Throttle does not allow returns on open windshields. I do not believe it is a defect, the winglet has the same problem like a said before. Stand in front of your bike out side and look though it. I am not trying to hurt your guys feelings it's just a windshield. Garbage! ::006::

I'm not trying to belabor this discussion with your dislike of your tinted MRA Vario, but I went out and took a close look at mine. I can't see any problem with optical clarity. No optical distortion in any place. As far as haze, it is tinted, so I see a dark tint, is that what you are calling haze? I can't imagine how a screen could be tinted without some sort of "haze" on it. It looks just like the tinted rear windows on my van, as far as I can tell. I am just confused and trying to understand if your problem is with the screen or if it the same as the other MRA tinted screens, but it doesn't suit your taste. I can't recall any other owners having this complaint.

If this was on your helmet shield it would be bad, maybe they changed something in the manufacturing. I think we can quit talking about it now it was not the point of the thread.

I had an MSR Vario on my TDM900 and loved it the way it pushed the air over me when I flipped up the wing and gave me more airflow when I left it down in hot weather. Fact is, they are not made to be looked through, they are made to be looked over.

I'm 5'9" and went with a calsci medium because there really different
with the hole and everything . I love this screen . I bought it because
it was getting really cold and I didnt want to stop riding . Now I may
leave it on year round . I can ride down the interstate with my visor
up no problem . Its amazing ::008::
Optics are not the best but I'm looking over the top so its not an issue .

ORDER PLACED!

After much deliberation, I ordered National Cycles "V-Stream" Sport-Touring sized windscreen with my Amazon dollars. ::012::

I was very tempted by the well-liked MRA and Madstad... but I'll start with the V-Stream as I think it will be just right. (Winglets next Fall, most likely.)

I'll let y'all know how I like it. ;D

My problem has been buffeting and the low frequency noise. I am 6'4" with a long torso so I set high in the saddle. For cooler weather I went with a V-stream sport touring shield on the madstad bracket, and it works pretty well. In warmer weather it is too good and I get really warm. So for warmer weather I have went back with my factory screen. I put it low as it will go tilted back as far as it will go, this puttings my helmet in quiet air and the wind hits me right in the chest where my vents are on my jacket. Works pretty good but not perfect.
I would like to hear any other options with guys that are tall or sit tall in the saddle.

I'm 6'5" and also sit tall in the saddle. I have tried the MRA Vario (on the bike now with a Madstad) and the Givi D447ST and the National Cycle Sport Tour. None of these work well for a tall rider on the stock mount. Then tried the Madstad and it seems the Givi and the National Cycle flex like crazy at higher speeds on the bracket. I think the stock bracket is where the flex begins and transmits into the Madstad. So, the Madstad and MRA seem to be the best combo for me so far. Less flex in the bracket and seems to be just tall enough at max height.

Re: Which Windscreen Mods Should I Get? - UPDATE -

UPDATE:

New National Cycle V-Stream took 5 min to install. I chose the lower mounting over the high (which the stock screen was at), and still gained 1 1/2 inches.

First test ride was good. Little to no buffeting, and I can see clearly over the top to the road ahead. It's warmer behind there too! I can see how I could use the upper mounting position, find even more quiet, and still see over the top so long as I was sitting up with good posture (remember, I'm 5'9" - long-ish torso.).

I'll update if/when I move it up. But so far, I'm pleased as punch. Now those winglet's would really provide a nice little cocoon of warmth and quiet come next Fall....

::026:: on the 5 minute install and the VStream is a nice looking accessory. Of course, as soon as I got the screws tightened down the thunderstorms rolled in. I'll report out tomorrow.

Mtbjay---------instead of buying an adjustable bracket, you can change the angle of the screen by cutting a piece of vacuum hose to different lengths, purchase 2 new screws of the same design(philips head cad plated) same thread but longer than standard. Replace existing 2 lower screws with your new purchase, put cut rubber tube spacer between lower wind screen well-nut and windscreen, wiggle the screw carefully to start the threads correctly, and carefully tighten the 2 new screws to an easy snug. This will change the angle of the windscreen enough to change the wind flow over the windscreen, and a little angle adjustment will virtually eliminate the buffeting.
Happy Travels!

My bike came with a Wasp Works adjustable bracket and stock screen so I have nothing to compare it with but I have a tall torso 6'3" 32" inseam and at full forward up it just makes it nice.
Now I have no complaints as I just came from a Triumph 1050 Tiger, I think almost every Tiger owner has tried at the least three screens it sucks for wind.
